16v conversion (mk1 to mk2?)

   hi poeple, i have searched allready but just wanted afew questions to be answred please.
   
   was just reading the 16v conversion guides and it says the 16v engine has to come from a car the same year as the car it going into (for me its a vtr). is this necessary?
   
   i asked because i have been offer a saxo vts (which runs and drives fine) but the body work is atrocious.
   
   i was wondering if this engine would fit into my saxo? here is a couple of details about each ...
   
   my saxo
   saxo mk1 vtr 98'
   
   the vts
   saxo mk2 vts 02'
   
   i can buy the whole vts cheap see with 80,000 miles but my vtr is mint and was wondering if the engine conversion could be done into my vtr?

   It's usually a different plug ecu and a different join to the in car loom so basically yes but you either have to start chasing wires back into the car which is a long job or splicing and joining which is a dangerous job if not done correct. Both very much doable, just more hassle. Least an 02 engine is newer however 80k is quite high for a car that new so be careful, bodywork could mean the car hasn't been looked after either..

   Not really, it's the interior loom plug that makes the difficult difference.
   
   Don't take my word for it witt he car, might of been a granny that bumped everything and it's the easy way to get a cheap engine, just make sure you get someone to drive the car who knows a VTS so they can tell you if it feels ok etc and obviously service history etc is good to know.

   Its simple if you go from same year cars say, single plug to single plug, as u dont have to mess around with the interior loom aswell.
   
   If you want to go from single plug to triple, then you have to get the interior loom aswell. Its just extra hassle ontop mate. It can be done.

   or you can get a single plug engine loom and swap them round (i think)

    what if both the cars are single plug but different years? (which maybe my situation)

    lol ok, ignore the year to year stuff.
    
    Just take into account, single plug or triple plug. alot easier if they are the same
    
    So yes, a single plug 97 will be easy with a 98 single plug

    cant you just use triple plug loom, but cut off a few plugs? or sumthing?

    02 wont mate up with a 98 so you'll need to do some chopping.
    mileage isnt high at all, 80k on a 7 year old car.
    mines 52pate with 97k on and runs fine.
