Knock/Bang

  1. #1
The front left hand side of my saxo makes a banging when going ove a bump (be the bump on the left or the right hand side that goes over it).
At first I thought the drop link could be loose, so took the nut off and then replaced it - making sure it was tight.
The trackrod sems tight....so i am kinda lost as to what it could be.

it was all fine till i removed the strut on the left hand side and replaced it.

I cannot see it being a wheel bearing (as no whirry noise or anything else associated with a bearing) or the drive shaft.........

    ARGH its driving me mad

    lower arm drive shaft?
  3. #3
lower arm is ok mate (was a b1tch to get back in) and the drive shaft seams fine, i would ahve guessed the ds would knock all the time not just when gone over a bump?

    Bottom arm??

Check that the hole at the bottom of the leg where the balljoint joins has not worn.. Cos that can make nock an bang

the hole looks ok, but the ball joint in the bottom arm looks a little worn - are they expensive/easy to replace?

u sure u tightened the drive shaft nut up properly? might be smackin the bearing when u go over bumps

I've got the exact same problem I'm checking over my sax tomorrow, just had it lowered 40mm so tis a tad annoying.

I've been advised it could be the wishbones rear mount (the mount under the two 16mm bolts, the mount is under the footwell)

Just read through mystics acient thread, seems a common problem.

My CV joint is on the way out too due to it getting a tiny hole.

I'm going to replace my ARB mounts too.. so check your droplinks/replace them as they're only cheap.

with the car still on the ground so the suspensions not hanging ( i no its hard when your cars decked) try and get a bar into any thin with a moving part and check for play.
Rear wishbone rubbers would be my next point of inspection tho flower

Is the nut at the top of the strut tight (where the top of the damper comes through all the top mounting bits and then the nut goes on) this can make a hell of a racket if its loose

Dose it click when you pull away and then go in to revse?

As mine did and it was the ball joint.
