Real Track Roll Cage Advice Needed

  1. #1
As some may know, i'm tracking my vts.

I'd like someone to show me a diagram of a recommended set up for a cage.
There will be only one seat and nothing else inside.
Welding isnt a problem as my dads a welder and he's making me one. He just wants something to go by..

    Any input appreciated !

No diagram, but it basically needs a main hoop to do behind the seats, from the floor up round the door frame, across the roof and back down the other side, and then rear legs to brace it with. Easiest to make them fit onto the rear arches but some cages go to the boot floor and attach to the rear beam mounts iirc.

Up to you if you want door bars or cross braces etc.

No, it's less than I've already been quoted. Just waiting to see how my wage spans out over next few months. Won't need it until October so will keep you posted

Thats the only pic I got at the minute of mine. Main hoop is made from 50mm (outer diameter) tube, and all the rest from 40mm diameter.

If you want additional bars, OMP sell various pre-formed fittings that you can use to make things a bit easier. Just weld them on to the other tubes:

Demon Tweeks sell them, or theres a shop on ebay that does them as well.

does your dad have pipe bending facilities etc....???

as if not its dangerous to just weld up any bars.

Id recomment buying a kit of all the bars and getting him to weld it together, at least then its been designed on a CAD system and tested

best to get a decent cage thats desighned to do the job lol
home made bodges will porbably fail in a big off unless its welded to a very high standard (and even then if an angles wrong it still might)

companies dont spend thousands desighning cages if it was something you could bodge in your shed tbh

I would suggest buying a cheap weld in cage with the basic's, then adding additional bracing as that usually is straight pipe. Work out how you are going to weld the cage as you need to weld all the way round each join. probably the best way is to fit the floor mounts last and weld the cage together, before moving up into position and sliding the floor mounts in.

i could ask jojo's dad what he could do??

    this is his website.. http://www.bmsengineering.co.uk/

he could design one on cad and bend the tubes and all that ready for your dad to weld...

he does a very good job mate

or just give him a call and he may be able to give you a rough quote...
