Dastek questions

  1. #1
I have been hunting around for info for quite a while now and cant find much.

I have found a dastek chip out of a 106gti and i was wondering if it will fit my 01 3 plug vtr. i dont mind witing.

I cant find out alot about these, it seems to be the older chip, alu case with a red'y coloured dastek sticker, not the new "q" type.

Im hoping for now to get a exhaust and enclosed induction and get it mapped to suit would it do the job ok?

does it come witht the mapping software or is that a fortune to buy?

    bit of a long post

    Cheers
    Trevor

    stay away from chips imo

    but

mapping usually is a few hundred quid, combined with mods etc

the dastek is more like a powercommander for a bike, i.e a piggy back tuning unit. as far as i can tell

Its not a dirty dirsel "performance chip" for £35 off ebay.

I know the cost of getting it mapped, but i was wondering can you buy the software to do it yourself?

Im not greatly into the electronics thing to be honest, but i have been jetting cars for a fairwhile aswell as the ever tempremental 2 stroke race bike...

mate if your just running an exhaust and induction etc there really no need for the dastek? you could just get your original ecu remapped or chipped? only really need a dastek if you want to run a turbo or bodies etc,

Im well aware of all that but thanks for pointing it out, and imo the first thing that should be done to any car is a aftermarket ecu/piggyback system to correct the universal map used.

Dastec will run with your mods. iirc they are hard wired into your loom, so i see no reason why it shouldn't work on your car, as you say it is just a piggyback ecu to suppliment your oe ecu.

No software with them i dont think (I never got software with either of the ones i have had previously). Dealers will map it for you, and fit if required, but the price I was quoted to do this was as much as having the original ecu mapped by someone like Chipwizards which will have the same effect really

the old style dasteks wont run on 3 plug ecu saxos.
not 100% if the dastek Q does either.
