VTS engine in Saxo/106/AX

  1. #1
I want to make a cheap sleeper car for myself, iv read the guides on doing the engine swap and it seem relativity easy apart from matching up the plug from the ECU with the plug on your car.

Id quite like to put a VTS/106 GTi engine in an AX because of the AX's light weight and aerodynamics.

Now the general rule seems to be you should match the VTS/GTi engine to the year of your car, but obviously GTi's/VTS's didnt even exist when the AX was out so would it be a case of bodging the 2 looms together? How hard would this be? The same would also apply to some older 106's as the GTi wasn't released until 1996.

Basically is there a more definitive guide to matching up VTS's/GTi's ECU with a car?

    Anyone?

After reading up a bit it seems like the AX is a no-no with just plug and play, but what about more modern 106/saxo's. Could a 98 saxo fit a 02 saxo VTS loom for instance? Has no one got some workshop manuals or something to check this out?

Theres no guide to it mate no. But I guess if you got all the looms from a VTS including all dash looms and fitted the lot inot an AX it would work? Could use VTS dials then too

Have a search on here for vts's into Saxos, 98 engine n loom into a 98 saxo.

Maybe have a scan of ax owners club for info on putting a Vts into one, I can imagine there is some splicing to do.

Yeah I dont want to go down the AX route because of the splicing involved, I found a whole thread about fitting the VTS into an AX and I dont fancy it atm (clicky does make good reading though )

Im just thinking if I buy a saxo from 98 that I cant just be limited to getting a 98 VTS engine n loom there must be looms from other years that are the same? Surely?

    Anyone?

Or are the wiring diagrams of the 106/saxo online somewhere?

single plug or three plug diagrams?
98 single plug give me one minute

    if you've got a 98 Vts, then you'll want a loom from a mk1, so a Vts below 1999.

    So MK1 = single plug ecu's , Mk2 = 3 plug ecu's? Thats what I wanted to know!

Aaron tank you very much for that diagram, is it possible to have one for the 3 plug arrangement to see the differences.

2 minutes let me dig it out

    shaboosh
    3 plug ecu wiring

dont think it works like that mate

mines an early MK2 and its single plug

think 3 plug is for the later mk2 models

not always mate cuz some early mk2's have single plug ecu id imagine you could just put the entire loom form a vts into an ax though ? ?
