Woobly gear stick!

  1. #1
My gear stick is really wobbly and loose when in and out of gear and hard sometimes hard too get in 1st and 2nd. Is it because i need new linkages? Gearbox mount? or is it the gearbox itself?

check under the car and see if the linkages are worn this sometimes makes your gear stick wobble , i suggest getting better linkages than standard but it up to you, if you end up replacing them

a new lower gearbox mout will sort this out usually

My gear stick is a bit wobbly too. Is it a major problem. Got a new clutch yesterday and can't really afford to spend mega money on this atm.

lower mount cost hardly anything a upgraded power flex on is £23 odd on kam racing so a standard one would be around £10 I guess

So say if i got the powerflex mount, and which new linkages would do the trick? How hard would be to fit or get a garage to do them? Im not all that good with that sort of stuff.

isnt it the spit pin on the selector?

ive been doin alot of research on this as its rly pissn me off now and ive found that if you have play back and forth in the selector then it is the pin which is easily change

So its not the bush then as was going to get one of these. I have now got my xs gear linkages, will fitting them change it back to how should be or is it not that?

I had the same problem on my VTR box, the gearstick was really wobbly and sometime hard to select gears. Took the car to Manic Motors and they found a small pin that was slowly making its way out.

PM Manic Motors with the link to this thread...they should be able to help

Yes, as mentioned... You need a new "roll pin" knocked in. They cost about 35p from Peugeot. Part number: 250924.

Pictures? How did you do it?
  22. #22
same problem with reverse with me and when it doesn't go in it makes a whining noise (obviously not in gear) pure pain in the arse

i have the same problem, would like pics if anyone has them, or just explanation of where abouts the pin is that you have to nock back in?

ITs a common problem on older cars, more common than people think. I had it on a 620ti and it turned out to be the selector pins under the gearstick. I just welded in a steering column U-joint and it was sorted.

Pulling it all out is a good reason to install a quickshift too.
