i've taken my saxo dash out for some work im doing and cant believe the weight of it.

im thinking about getting one made up in fibreglass but am open to suggestions, can you post some pics of any moddified dashs you've seen or done.

this is a lightweight track car, not a show car.

  4. #4
fold a sheet of alli up and put ur dials ect in that...?
  5. #5
get a grinder on it and go mental
  6. #6
Recipricating saw... get rid of the passanger side

just dump a rev counter in the car and dont worry bout the dash.. clearly not needed for a track car.. if not just get a carbon fibre dash.. just rather expensive..

might go for a 106 dash, cut down like this....

i still want a dash, have a had cars before without them and they just look messy.

i was going to cut the dash in half in mine. Remove the passenger side bit of it and leave the drivers side and the centre part. Then move the fusebox behind the centre part neatly and plastic weld a side on the cut part and get it flocked so you cant tell!!

thats exactly what i was planning for when i get round to building my track car. i'll be interested to see how it turns out.

although i bet if you just cut everything from behind the dash it wouldnt be that heavy in the end! get rid of airbag if u have 1 passenger side too. Get rid of stereo and heaters and things like that that arent needed!!

also if you really want a dash but want to be extreme in cutting it down, get a circular saw drill attachment and cut big circular holes in the large flat areas where it can reduce mass but retain strength

Just had a little chat with Rob @ CCF (carefully crafted fibreglass)

he says they can bang the dash out at £150, if a few people are interested

i think you would need to put the ducting and other bits back on afterwards but without the orignal bits in there im sure you could use some alternative ducting to save some weight

he also said the mould would be flimsy and it would potentially need bracing to firm it up when its in the car.

it could also be made in black to avoid any painting costs

    anyone interested???

i took mine out and its to heavy for my liking!

yer ive took mine out too and it does weigh a tonne, i did it to remove all the sound deadening and firewall shit and from behind it and that weighs a tonne too lol

i think just use the 106 dash and cut it like the one in the pic, then just use some carbon sheet to tidy it up a bit, and tidy the wiring up from fuse box a bit too and bobs your uncle lol a half decent looking lightweight dash

ziptie the clocks to the steering column
