raceland suspension

  1. #1
i had a search about the raceland adjustable suspension kit, most people seem to say its really bad, anyone whos had experience of it, whats so bad about it? any chance of it damaging the car or anything like that?

surely it would be better than standard shocks lowered on just springs?

    cheers for any advice

i have these on my saxo atm, but im only using standard shocks, but i love them, just becouse i can adjust them when eva i want. check progress thread.

you running racelands on the front and standard torsion bars on the back?
and how do you go about adjusting them? easy job?
  4. #4
Yeh very easy, just jack the front off the ground then, what i do is use a real long screw driver to brake the locking ring so it turns free then just wind them down with me hands can be a bit tight if the coil isnt clean..

but 20min job to be honest.

i fitted some to someons car. ride is a bit shit on them.

when i first fitted my racelands i had spax shocks and ride was very good unless you had it right down then driving over cat eyes felt like hitting curbs but i use standard shocks at the moment and ride isnt that bad to be honest, better than my -60mmsprings with gaz shocks..

they are cheap and nasty. Suspension is one of the main areas where saving up an extra month or two will reap big rewards in handling, ride quality and durability.

in your opinion am i better off just lowering the front about 40 on springs and adjusting the rear torsion bar to match?
cause its either that or the racelands tbh. or save up for a few months and get a spax kit, havent really got mega bucks to spend on the car at the moment.

what are you trying to achieve? a good handeling car or just 1 that looks good?
  10. #10
i just want it to look a bit better really, dont really want the handling to suffer too much compared to standard though.
my main concern is i hear they ride really crap and bottom out ect. also hard about them going through the top mounts and out the top of the bonnet
just wanted to know if they would be better than standard shocks on about 35mm lowering springs? not taking price into account

if u just want it to look good then get some 50mm lowering springs and uprate ur shocks. thats what ive got and mine handles nicely.

dont think id ever buy raceland suspension, coilovers for roughly £200... doesnt sound right, most coilovers you get are over £300.... buy cheap, buy twice imo
  13. #13
If you just want looks get some 40mm spax springs for the front and have the torsion bar done about 60mm. Cheaper than raceland coilovers.

sorry to bring up a old post again but i never got round to checking this one, basically, i got a choice to make, loker 40-50 on standard shocks or get a raceland set? with money no option, which would ride better? and last longer ect?
  15. #15
You get what you pay for. with money no option get a bilstein kit. if money really is an option then just get a set of decent springs at about 40mm and leave it at that until you can afford a full matched kit of decent quality.

so the racelands really are rubbish? just that a guy on here is selling a set for not much more that springs would cost me, and hes just round the corner. just springs would ride better? tbh i probebly wont be saving for something better for a while, so it will have to last a year or 2 at least

lol yeah i spose your right ... just tempting to go for the adjustables lol. oh well springs it is

Just stick with the springs kid, honestly those raceland coilovers are p!ss!! I wouldnt even pay 50quid for them, theyr useless. All I had in my car at that stage was standard shocks and 60mm springs. I then bought those raceland heaps and I took them out again within an hour the ride was THAT bad! So i stuck with my original shocks and spring for a while and then bought new shocks. If you can afford new shocks as well as springs go for them, those raceland coilovers ARE FAIL!!!!

If you're not fitting them yourself - would be worth saving up for dampers too as it'll save you money having to replace the dampers down the line depending on how low you're looking to go.
