was thinking of getting the supersprint straight through pipe but what is the difference in power gains and exhaust rumble between a straight thru pipe and cat back (i already have a s/s piper backbox)
cat back or straight thru pipe?

#1

#2Some bhp gains and a better sound from the exhaust...
For what they cost you may as well get one, and you can fot them yourself -
#3I wouldn't mind hearing answers to this question too
-
#4from what i know.. cat back simply removes the silencer.
race centre section removes all restrictions such as cat, silencer, and is a straight through pipe from the manifold drop down to the backbox. thus being less restrictions than a cat back, exhaust gases should flow more freely and quicker, meaning increased performance, quicker throttle response etc...
if you want my opinion, out of the two ive just bought a supersprint race pipe. £69 from kam racing, got delivered today, being fitted on thurs. will let you know how it goes and my thoughts if you can wait till then. -
#5i think cat backs have a center silence only small through and straight throught could have no centre silencers and no cat
-
#6yeah if u woulnt mind mate?
-
#7so the difference power wise is minimal?
-
#8i have a stianless steel strait through ssytem on mine from the manifold and a 4inch rolled tip backbox its so loud its unbelieveble iv had loads of complaints in me street lol
-
#9from what i know, yeah its minimal but straight through is more of a power gain as the cat is a large restrictor.
straight through is called so beacuse its just a pipe from manifold to the backbox.
cat back explains itself, from cat to backbox.
pm me thursday and ill tell u what i think. -
#10i think i will just get the cat back then lol
-
#11im just gonna swap my cat back on for MOT time. simple enough job.
-
#12yea need to get a cat casue it was like that when i bought the car and the guy didnt have the cat, mot in june so shud be able to get one by then
-
#13Hope you don't mind me posting this on your thread but hopefully it might help you out too..
Will a Supersprint system sound really really loud at low revs with a race straight through system or just at high revs? I don't mind it being loud when going for it but just driving normally down my road or around town, will it sound respectable and not piss the neighbours off??
Cheers. -
#14cool.
im gonna fit mine again by myself i think -
#15again from what i know....Quote:Hope you don't mind me posting this on your thread but hopefully it might help you out too..

supersprint race systems are louder than standard centre systems.. however are at peak loudness about 3500rpm....
thus if u keep it below it shouldnt be ridiculous
as i said to the other guy
im having my supersprint race section fitted thurs
so if any of you want info/experiences/sounds etc pm me then. -

#26The catback and race pipe are exactly the same apart form length.
Ive had both fitted to the car, both are same bore/diameter. The race pipe has a very louder sound than the catback and pops and bangs a bit more/louder.
Theres a slight drop in power with the catback pipe but not really that noticable, also its alot better if you do motorway journeys as it is quite loud there. Both pop and bang but the race pipe just does it alot louder with a slight performance increase -
#27how is that ""exactly the same"... if theres a difference in performance, pops and noise?Quote:The catback and race pipe are exactly the same apart form length.
