Where is the cat in my 2001 Furio?!

  1. #1
Have tried to look but don't really know what i'm looking for?!

Does anyone know where the cat is on my 2001 "Y Reg" Furio? Or will it differ between Furio's?!

    Need to know!

    Thanks,
    James.

Should be built into the manifold mate.
  3. #3
i think they are in the manifold but not 100% sure?
  4. #4
if they are built in to manifold do you have to get a new manifold to de-cat them

Is there any way I could see if I went outside now with a torch or is it not easy to identify?

I need to know for definate to determine which centre section I go for you see.

    Cheers mate.

Sure that if it's in the manifold you just have to get a certain centre section that will decat??

Yeah but it might not be visible if you have got the heatsheild on, but it should look like a kinda box shaped thing built into the manifold with little dots on it.

i think they are built inside of the manifold so u would be able to get a centre section without de-cat ing the car

Ah, well I haven't upgraded my manifold so I assume the heatshield is on so I can't see..

Everyone confident that my cat is in the manifold then?

Basically i'm getting a piper or supersprint backbox and can't make my mind up whether I want to de-cat it or not!
  12. #12
All MK2 Saxos apart from VTS have the cat built into the manifold so yeah its 100% in your mani unless its been changed to a MK1 mani and decatted that way.

iirc some people get a mk1 mani to de-cat mate, dont know what gains you would get though
  14. #14
if you look from the top you can see mine past the heatsheild. you can see it from under the car too, its like a big buldge kind of thing on the vertical part of the manifold right at the front of the engine bay, just behind the radiator.

i think some 2001 cars had them under the car some in the mani, correct me if im wrong?

tbh i wouldnt bother with a decat, doubt you will see huge power gains, just make the car louder, and you got the hassle of puting it back at MOT time

if you want to de-cat your car, and the mani contains the cat... logic must say that you change the mani for one without a cat.

all thats on your centre section is a silencer mate, any centre section would just have no silencer in it, ur centre section is irrelevant to de-cat.

to de-cat your car you need to look at de-catted manifolds.
  16. #16
Oh right. So your saying that if the cat is in my mani (which it most probably is) the only way I can de-cat is to get a new manifold?

If so, I do not want to do this as don't have the funds for a new mani at this time.

Therefore, what Supersprint centre pipe is the best one to get?

    http://www.kamracing.co.uk/citroen-s...ntre-pipes-40/

Do I still get the race one? Ie, if i get it, surely it won't de-cat but will it make any difference to any of the other ones on that page?

    Much appreciated
  17. #17
yeah get the race one... it will be a better centre section than your standard one.

your cat is in your manifold, so you cannot de-cat until you get a new manifold mate

    hit that thanks button

Many thanks mate, just what I was after!

So even though the race section won't de-cat my car, is it still worth getting that section as to the other Supersprint centre sections?

Just have to make my mind up on whether to get the Supersprint or Piper backbox now!

    Thanks again!
  19. #19
yep, the supersprint section will be better for yours as its a straight pipe.

the only difference is for mine is that it will de-cat it meaning less restrictions.

but imo go for the race centre section.. good value for money and good sound.

    glad to help

Ok nice one mate. I'm holding it against you lot if my cat isn't in my manifold lol!

Should still pop etc even though i'm not de-catting right?

    Thanks

Aha! Great thread, so my Furio will definatly have the cat in the manifold!?
  23. #23
yep, and a silencerless centre section too

Ok nice one mate. You also recommend going for the Supersprint Race centre section then, seeing as it will still remain road legal and give a nice note?
  25. #25
im still unsure as you technically have a straight through already! however the race section is dupposed to sound good, im just not sure how much of a difference it would actually make

Ah right. I've heard the backboxes alone don't really sound that great tbh. It's only £60 so hopefully it will help add a few pops etc being a race section
  27. #27
i have a sportex straight through which sounds awesome, so the supersprint should be good too

    race section ftw
    mines in my car atm
