Turbo/Supercharge a 1.4?

    Yes, it is possible.

    But for the Money : Power ratio, you would be better off dropping a VTS engine in, then charging that.

    1.4 is like 75bhp...and with charger - you'll b lucky to get it to 100 without the engine falling apart.

    1.6 16v is already 120bhp without any mods. And has better standard running gear ((which if you get the car s/c'd - you'll have to upgrade anyway))

    And before you say you cant afford insurance on a VTS....you won't be able to on a supercharged car either I'm afraid.

    Yea it would be cheaper to drop a VTS engine in, however "you'll b lucky to get it to 100 without the engine falling apart" is not true at all. The 1.4 block is just as strong as the 1.6 and will take the boost fine. Depending on what sort of boost your looking to run you should see around 140bhp quite happily.
    And insurance wise has no1 else yet released it IS cheaper to go boosted? I was quoted another £15 a month for a VTS and only another £10 for my vtr turbo.. But then again insurance these days seems to change from day to day so thus maybe why.

    technically a 1.4 will be more reliable than a 1.6 as the 1.6 is a bored out 1.4 so the wall thickness is smaller on the 1.6 which means the cooling side can be done better on the 1.4.

    a quick conversion on power if done correct is anything from 80-200% increase in power/torque.

    eg a vts would go from 95 atw to approx 180

    more than it would to just buy a 2nd hand vtr engine i would imagine.

    OK say i do put a vtslump in and get it turbo charged, that would cost about say £7,000 including gettin it turbo charger. i know its a stupid question but by the time ive spent all that i may as well have got a new car whats so good about getting the saxo turbo charged rather then buying a new car?

    I think you've answered your own question.

    You'll be lucky to get an engine, turbo conversion and upgrade brakes/gearbox/clutch for £7000!!

    plus insurance on top......

    If you dont want the hassle - buy a different car!

    the point is that not many ppl have them! its all done by you!! its your individual car tailord for you!!! sumthin to be proud of.... thats y ppl spend the ££ on there cars
