engine removal help, engine crane ideas

   Anyone got any ways of removing a engine without a crane ?
   
   right, need a engine crane for Saturday the 7th willing to pay to borrow it for the day, unless, someone can sell me one, / got any tips on how i can remove my engine and box
   Not putting one back in, just taking a 1.1 engine and box from a shell , big tools to hand are a trolley jack a set of ramp things and a decent tool box, is there anyway i can drop the engine out from underneath if i use the ramps ?

   rent 1 from a tool store??
   
   if your not using the engine again just unbolt it and let it drop to the floor then jack the car up and over it.
   when i took the 2ltr out my nova i didnt use a crane. put jack on sump, unbolted all the mounts then lowered jack right down. wiggled engine off jack then jacked car right up, or if you have 2 people to help just get the to lift the front of the car and pull the engine out on the jack.

   you could drop it on the floor then get a couple of big lads to lift the shell up over the engine!

   oh btw the shells completely stripped of interior and all panels boot etc ? so should i just let it drop and jack it up and over, also cant hire from tool place they want proof I'm qualified to use it :|

   dont normally ask for proof. how do you prove that?
   
   just drop it on floor and lift the shell then imo.

   sweet, so cna i just drop the whole engine and box out at the same time and lift the shell over top ?
   
   Oh and would it help being on ramps ?

   if so just cut the cross member off

   yeah the shells going scrappy sunday morning needs to be a rolling shell tho so can i still do that ?

   dont put the car on ramps, you dont really wanna drop the engine 1ft, have the car as low as possible.

    right okay, so if i cut the bottom cross member put jack under engine, bosh it up a little to take the slack undo it all and roll it out from the front / roll the shell back

    cross member wont stop it rolling.
    
    so cut the cross member off, take the mounts off the shell, then slide it back
