Strut top mount ?

  1. #1
Right i made a thread a while back and have checked everythinig about my knocking noise,

    etc
    ball joints
    Cv joint
    Trackrod ends etc etc

but its still there, it only does the clunking noise on certain corners and if i go round say in 2nd pritty fast, i get around 2 - 3 knocks, and then it stops,

So could this be the top mount, if so how can i check it ?

    Thanks in advance

if you jack the front of the car up and try and wobble the strut, or with a big pry bar try and move it.

The only real way it to just replace the parts you think are at fault, or try and re-inact the knocking whilst the car is static and see where it's coming from. Other than that there isn't much I can suggest.

hmm, ok then mate, i will try it at the weekend,

i mean i jacked the car up, and put it in gear and left it running, and did lock to lock, and there is no noises from the cv joint what so ever, so i think it will more the likley be the top mount

sounds very much like wishbone bushes

mine was doing something similar but for example it only happened when putting on full lock then straightening up. I had the car lowered on the Apex Sports Kit and it hasn't done it since. I did think it could have been something to do with the old springs but wasn't too sure..

i got the same mate and i believe mine to be the passengers side top mount, i bought a new one for £10 from euro parts and am getting it fitted on monday for £60 which aint too bad, just hoping that my prediction is the right one otherwise it was a waste of time and money

getting proper fcuked off about it now....

i'll let you know if this was the solution so that you got more of an idea of what yours may be...

Droplinks? They could well look ok, but they can have a habbit of making knocking noise's. They are only cheap, could be worth replacing.

i got my top mount replaced as i said i was today and have got the car back and the knocking noise is half gone but there is still a slight knock on the odd occasion when i turn at slow speeds

however the man at the garage did tell me that the knocking noise hadn't fully gone when i came to pick it up but did say that it was the bearing below the top mount that needed changing also to get rid of it fully... so i know the next job that needs to be done on the saxo! sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know how hard a job that actually is and maybe how much it would cost approximatly.....

id go citreon mate the aftermarket ones are abit shit imo or buy some rose joints and make ya own as for the noise id go top mounts, mine doin the same thing an ive changed everything else

when you buy top mounts they dont come with the bearings,

ive got the same noking noise but mines only hapens over ruff terain or manhole covers,

going to buy some new topmount bearings

yours sounds like shock-absorbers mate, samething i needed to change on mine, if you go over a bump or make the suspension move fast, it causes the clunking noise.

ill update when i get the job dpne and see if it is
