Toyo Proxes for Track?

  1. #1
Looking at some tyres to fit to "occassional track" wheels and found some bargain Toyo 195/50/15s on eBay

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=002

Just wondering if anyone else has used these on track and how they fare?

I know they are the wrong size (50 profile) but I'm not too concerned about that

im not 100% sure about track use, but i have had them on the raods (not sure if you have) and tbh i did not like them, my personal opion is that they seemed to skit about a litle bit, as if they would grip, but then slide, then grip again....

Like i said i cant be sure about track use, but thats how they wer onthe roads for me....

Could mayb recomend some Marangoni tyres, not sure of the actual model of tyre but it has like a "wave" shaped tread going from one side to the other.

I no they use this tyre in the japenesse RX8 cup....

EDIT - They are called the Marangoni Zetalinea

Here is the link to there site http://tyre.marangoni.com/

If you go into the Motorsport section, then single tyre championships, it has it wrote up in there

You can get the better version of that tyre for 117
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=002
The PX4E was mainly designed for road use giving lower noise when in contact with the surface.
I always use the one in the link provided and have never had an issue with them in wet or dry and that not being gental in eiter of the conditions.
Other people will say dif but personally the the best for the track.

i had proxes on my nimrods, fair enough i didnt track it with them on but it did get some stick on the roads. i didnt think tha much to them until i got some vts rims with budget tyres on and have very little grip. my next set of tyres will be proxes.

one thing to bare in mind craig is with them been 50 profile, there will obviously be more flex in the tyre wall than the 45 profile. not sure how picky you want to be

craigy fyi r888s are proxes and come in at 65 quid a tyre from some stockists and are the 50 profile

have a mate who runs them on his ek9 for road use highly rates them unless its quite damp/wet
  7. #7
quite a lot of people rate them
for track there probably one of the better road legal tyres you can get

yeah been thinking of getting some for my R wheels for the summer...but from what ive heard there very good on road and track unless it raining and pretty wet but i doubt your going to be nailing it in the wet lol so if youve got the money id get r888's
  10. #10
in standing water some people say there not the best but if you take it steady should be sound
  11. #11
Its really not worth getting anything other than R888's Craig if you consider they are only an extra 60quid

You wont regret it, trust me!

I had toyos on my sprinter. They are quite soft so grip quite well in both wet and dry. The t1s I had didn't screech at allyet the cf1's were very vocal. There are better gyres out there though eg maragoni and bridgestone potenza's but toyos are pound/performance bargain

Cheapest I've found 888s for is £300. Don't really have that amount of cash to throw at the car at the mo, which is why I was looking at the cheaper end of the scale - especially as I may only do 2-3 actual track days this year!

Craig camskill I got my last set of R888s for £240 delivered.

thats a bit short of £300.

If you are serious about track time, i would go for the better R888s. Although they will show up how bad your suspension is if you dont have decent suspension IMO

normal Toyos I have for my wet wheels lol!...

fuckkkkkk ive just been out bid on some tr1's on ebay, gutted, anyone on here took them? lol

Seriously Craig, for the sake of 40quid its worth waiting that extra month, or having the 40quid on the credit card for an extra month!

There is a difference of over £170!!! Can I justify it for the amount of track use they will get this year?
  18. #18
craig you can get a set of tyres for £70???

as I said camskill sell R888s cheap.

If you are serious about track time the R888 is alot better. However if the 3track events includes, 15mins at trax and fcs then I can see why you cant justify it.

    Exactly

so the track events you count are shows lol!!!

You wont even scrub the R888s in with the track time the cars gonna get then

Craig are you insane? of course they are worth it. Once you have them you'll understand
  24. #24
R888's tyres are realy good for track mate just got a new set delivered last week all in delivered was £64.45 a tyre. 195/50/15's they are well known on trak scene for being cheap and very effective. You realy should warm them up abit first though for full benefit tbh.
Toyo Proxes T1-R would be more suited for road use and would last you alot longer and seem good by what i have experienced.
  25. #25
r888 the only ones worth having for the money ,buy cheap tyres for track buy twice and no grip
  26. #26
I have heard great things about Hankook RS2's.
Not usually my 1st choice Tyre brand (or 3rd, 4th or 5th for that matter lol) but all reviews seems to rate them highly considering their price.

They are aimed at the track market and are very well priced on camskill in the 50 profile size you are looking at.

    Try googling for some reviews

888's are plenty better than parada spec 2's i have had both and paradas overheat way to quick on track
