1.1 to VTS in progress... Need quick advice

  1. #1
Right spent yesterday removing the engine out a mates 1.1 5 door aztec 106 to make way for his new vts engine today.

Basically i need to know if there is a way of fitting the engine without welding up a bracket on the top engine mount. It will only be a tempary thing to get the car moving.
Could i just use the original 1.1 mount for the time being?

    Thanks guys

Could try and use the 1.1 mount, but I'm unsure whether it'll fit the engine if that makes sense.

my main issue is will the mount sit lower than a vtr/s mount putting the engine at a funny angle. By eye the mounting holes look similar will have to check it more closely

Might be worth holding back and just welding in a vtr/s mount ?

see that what i want to do but the guy im doing the conversion for needs his car running tonight to be able to go back to uni.
its only got to be to withstand a 40 mile drive at an easy pace

I wouldn't like to drive it with a dodgy drives side mount.

Depends on how secure/close the 1.1 mount is.

no nor would i. what sort of weld would be best for the bracket/plate. i was thinking of make 2 L shape brackets and spotting them to the wing

Have you not got a vtr/s engine mount cradle to weld in? Or were you going to fabricate one?

Wee Wilsy's thread - he welded in a vtr/s mount to his 1.0 <- this is the way I'd do it.

Ideally should have planned ahead and had a vtr/s mount ready to weld in - would take out the uncertainty as to whether your custom mount will be 'man' enough.

I'd make sure you get a good weld, and the bracket is strong enough. Wouldn't like to see the bracket break whilst on the motorway - if in doubt over engineer it.
