Bloody gearbox oil!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well my gearbox on my mk2 vts has been whineing and crunching for a while now, so ive saved up the pennies and bought a fully refurbished box and had it fitted the other day. Cars much nicer to drive, however now ive done about 50 miles (i hardly use the car) i had a suspision it was leaking box oil so i put a piece of cardboard under it last night and this morning i had a look and there is a little puddle of box oil on it.

Its leaking around the front edge around the drain plug area, now i had this proffesionally fitted so hopefully they will be sorting it, has anyone else had this problem?

Hope i dont end up paying again

hey matey, iv got a mk1 vtr, i know its not the same car but the principle should be the same. i just had to top up my gear box oil because when i changed the drive shaft i acccidently pulled it out of the gear box and the oil went everywhere. it took me ages to find out where you put the gear oil but eventually a figured out tht it goes in the drainage hole lol mine leaked after that because i did not tighten up the plug enough. but if the garage fitted the gear box they should tighten any loose nuts n bolts for free, if they say no then give them hell lol

should be a simple fix mate.

might need tightening up or just a new washer putting on

is there a chance they used the old washer for the plug when filling the box

(do they use crushable copper washers?)

The washer should have been replaced as it has been fully refurbished.

Found the problem to actually be 2 of the bolts in the box casing were slightly looser than they should be.

    I hope its sorted now

To be honest i think that all boxes will whistle slightly, especially when slowing down. Its when you get a really loud whine when accelerating i believe you have to worry as thats bearings etc.

Now with the leak, have a look underneath, can you see where its looking from? You need to know this before you can do anything about it.
