Best Cam for VTR?

  1. #1
jus wna know peoples recommendations for a cam for my vtr?
  2. #2
    Look on KAM RACING.

The fast road cam is good, or try the PH3s.

Just incase you didnt know you will also need a remap. Reccomend chipwizards.

are you wanting to re map your car to m8?
  4. #4
    What year is your VTR?
  5. #5
well its already mapped, but gta be done agen, and its a 1999 t reg
  6. #6
id probably say newmans ph3 with a new re map they are highly recomended by other users
  7. #7
The exisiting map wont be right if you get cams, so you will need to get another remap.

Unless you go with cams that wont need a remap, in which case there wont be much point and the gain will be minimal.

cool was just wondering the same thing which is best to put in what sort of gains are you looking at from those cams with a remap
  9. #9
"The Newmans PH3 camshaft is not suitable for VTR engines running the standard injection system. Aftermarket induction such as throttlebodies or bike carbs will be required."

is this just a load of rubbish to make me spend more? or do i need throttle bodies/?

its not a load of rubbish mate, it is there for a reason, but you dont necessarily need them, im sure some people have run it on standard induction, you will just get quite a lumpy idle, and it mite not get the full potential out of the cam

but if you want the best gains you could go for the s1 rallye inlet as this is bigger than the vtr inlet and you would get gains just by fitting this inlet alone to a vtr engine without a cam, as it is around 3x bigger and made from aluminium and vtr inlet is plastic

it is a good cam to go for, you will get good gains, but a bigger induction will help get the full potential out of the cam, but you dont have to go bodies, you can just use the 1.3 rallye head

this is what kam told me, give them a pm they will be best to give you the full ins and outs mate, they will answer any ques and give you the best advice

but if you want this cam i would advise using the rallye inlet

    hope this helps mate

cheers mate, much appreciated, how easy is it to get hold of them inlets?
  12. #12
Rallye inlet only fits black tops and early silver tops. Port spacing is different on the 98bhp VTR's. If you fit one, you should be looking to remap anyway.

Go for something in the middle like a 266 duration cam - Kent PT40, Cat Cam do one too. Should run 'ok' without a remap but will make more power with one.

sound, i dont think mine is the 98bhp, its just the grey rocker cover. so maybe one will fit? thanks for your help mate, gna try track down an inlet

i forgot to mention that lol, that is also a good option mate goingfor the milder cam

its just depends what you want from the engine

the rallye inlets arent that hard, ive noticed a few floating around at the min, try searching rally register and 106owners they will have them too, they are about 80quid but a bit of a fiddle to fit, but for the extra 80 quid you will get some good gains

just saying its a grey top could still be a 98bhp or 90bhp engine cause they later mk1 engines had a grey top but was 90bhp and so was the early mk 2s, what year is your saxo? im sure its late 2001 they introduced the 98bhp engine to mk2's some one correct me if im wrong but i know it was around that time, sooo what year is your saxo?

either way both options are good to go with, personally i would go with the rallye inlet and ph3, well i am going to be running a similar set up soon anyway, but origionally i was going to do this

mines a 1999 soo dno what it is lol
  16. #16
its a black yop so you coukld get the rallye inlet
  17. #17
1999 would be a early silver top, i've had 3. The rallye inlet still fits though

do you mean how much of a gain with cams and remap with the s1 inlet and how much with just the inlet?

if so, erm deoending on cam you could get 120 to 125bhp at very most

and just with inlet you could see around 5bhp maybe a bit more, but i dont think it would be alot more, its more throttle response than power i would have thought, but i dont really know, no one has really posted their rr results with a s1 inlet, well i havnt noticed any so i cant be 100% on them results

that doesnt sound a bad output mind
