Brake Conversion

  1. #1
Want to do get a brake conversion done on my Saxo. I will be doing a turbo conversion eventually.

Not sure what to get and where to go.

    Was looking at these:
    Brembo GT 4 Pots

    Tar-Ox 284mm 6 Pots

    Hi-Spec
    http://www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk/index...13ce1f6d35bb46

Not really sure what else is out there.

Do I need to upgrade anything else like the master cylinder or will they be ok to fit straight on.

wilwood - you really do not need to pay the extra for 6 pot brakes.

Where can I get Wilwood from.

Do I need to upgrade anything else when fitting bigger brakes.

    www.rallydesign.co.uk

Might need a bigger master cylinder

You done need a bigger MC but it will benefit from a 23mm one for sure

For 400 quid i love my wilwoods just hate the fact they anodised them and there faded to bits now

both wilwood and hi spec are very good brakes

have heard a few people say the color on the wilwood fades very quickly, and be careful they have an imperial taper thread on them so getting lines for them is dificult (though i can supply braided ones for less than rally design)

the bonus is with either of these you dont get the squeel associated with the brembo four pots!!!

Excellent. Thanks for your help. I saw your Wilwoods at the FCS in the car park before it opened. They look wicked.

Where can I get a 23mm MC from and is it a direct fit.

What are the benefits of this.

Also should I get a 1 peice or 2 peice disk kit.

I have put goodridge braided lines on my car already. Could they be used with a HI-Spec kit.

You can get the 23mm master cylinder off a few cars, if its the vtr you wont have abs so you'll need the 4 port version, off a 406 v6 coupe, or 306 gti6, look in the for sale section - few in there

the end on the hispec calipers are the same as the standered calipers so yes in theory the lines will fit

it all depends on how big a disk you go for and how much free play there is in the lines once bolted to the caliper and with the car and wheels off ground.

if the line pulls tight then it could get damaged when doing this on the road, it could also rub on the tyre and wear through

So a MC of a 406 or GTI 6 will fit my VTR.

I have 16inch wheels so will need them to fit under that.
Not sure about the 1 peice or 2 peice kits. If I went with a 1 peice disk then what disk will I need to get when I replace them as they will be bigger that the standard Saxo ones.

Think I'm pretty sure I am gonna get the 305mm Hi-Spec kit. Are they as good as Brembo and Wilwood.

Yeh all are good on a Saxo tbh.

305mm is way overkill on a saxo imo.

Yeah but will they fit. The brakes on the Saxo are pretty crap and I wanted to fill the area behind the wheels as much as possible so I was wondering if 305's would fit.

Yes, it sure will, just check that yours is 4 port, if so then you'll need a 4 port from one of the above cars.

As for 305mm discs under 16inch rims, you'll need 20mm spacers at least to run them.

If your looking for a good cheap setup, look at this: (also gives you an idea of how close they are under 16's!)

May be worth a pm, almost bought these but had just got some brembo's myself!

Thanks for that bit of info.
Didn't want to run 20mm spacers so that rules that out but maybe the Hi-Spec's will be ok as they are different to the Brembo's

    Hi-Spec do 2 size kits:

Was gonna get the 300+ and when I need to replace the disks get 406 305mm ones.
