What Cams to choose ?

    Cat Cams ?
    Newman Ph1/2/3

Does anyone know what cams would be best?

I have a 2000 VTR. It has a cat-back magnex system and induction kit. In the next few weeks it should have a S1 Rallye Inlet, Manifold and Sports Cat.

Im not sure what the differance between all the cams are really, And would i need one of the adjustable pullys?

    Any advice is welcome

its singular, camshaft, not camshafts, not being pedantic jsut dont want you to order the wrong ones mate.

as far as which one to get im not sure, i only ever had piper, i had a 285, i wasnt too impressed with it, good mid range but it seemed to die a little at the top, but they may have been timing.

what engine is yours mate, 90bhp or 98bhp?

if you want to run without a remap id say ph1 or the kent pt30

if you are going to map id go with pt50 or ph3

id not really heard much about catcams, apart from the 708's are reputable. but thats from vts owners

if i were you id get the mani on first see what you reckon

if its 3plug ecu 98bhp engine rallye inlet WONT fit btw

It is a single plug 90bhp i did check before i looked for the inlet

I will be getting a remap, Can get it for about 200-250 quid hopefully. But not untill i have finished, going to get all the things at once then my car will not be off the road very long

in essence they open the valves for longer/wider to let more air in and exhaust out, resulting in easier power generation and thus more power.

very well put, just to expand on the different styles of cams.

You sacrifice power in different areas, a wild cam will mean you wont have sod all power down low, but you'll have plenty up high. A medium cam, some say the PH3/708 (most common) is wild but id say its tame, you loose minimal power down low but still some, and gain a nice spread up high.

A super wild cam will make the car idle terrible and possibly not even idle with the oem idle speed, hence why these generally demand a remap to stop you blowing the top off your engine off. But when you get it into the power band you'll be

catcams are good cams to go with, there are only two decent options really with your type of head since its a roller rocker, that is 4901201 which is a milder cam and wont need remap its a 260deg cam, and 4901202 thats a 270 deg cam and will need a remap, so since you getting a remap the 4901202 will be a good cam to get, erm but if you change your head to a blacktop the springs are better so you can get a better cam like 4901133 kam racing sell this, it has a better lift than the newmans ph3 and will run well if you are getting the s1 rallye inlet, and since your changing your inlet and manifold you could change head at same time lol

erm as for newmans they are a great cam too, you cant use the ph2 though as thats for the 106 heads which use bigger bearings if i remember rightly lol erm but for the ph1 and ph3 get the ph3 again since your getting a remap you may aswell get the better cam lol this will run great with the s1 inlet aswell but the newmans is cheaper too so its up to you there are a few diff cams about worth looking into, kent are also good cams,

as for pullys and adjustable pully is needed as it helps you adjust the timing of the cam to get better results

feel free to drop me a pm if you need any more help, ive been looking into cams for a while as i will be running a similar set up to you soon

sorry its a bit long winded hahaha

Cheers Chris, I thought the S1 inlet only fit on the 90bhp Silvertops Its all new to me tbh

i missed this in the pm i just sent you lol

erm they only fit the 90bhp silvertops, so only too late 200 i think it is, just make sure your port spacing is like this 00 00, where as a mk2 98bhp port spacing is like this 0 0 0 0 which is completly different from the rallye inlet

erm it will fit blacktop as the rallye head is a blacktop prettymuch except the rallye head has larger bearings but this doesnt affect using the rallye inlet

erm so aslong as its early silvertop or blacktop from 106 or saxo then the s1 inlet will fit fine
