Head Gasket questions?

  1. #1
I am going to get the headgasket changed on my 16 lump when i get the cams put in, Was just wondering if i only needed a headgasket and the head bolts, or wether i would need to buy the headgasket set too? Are the items in the headgasket set necessary? as all i really want is a new gasket and all sealed round the cam ladders and rocker, basically so no oil leaks. Dont really want to pay 60+ for a set that i dont need, any suggestions welcome .

One more thing, i wouldnt have thought the head has been skimmed but.. if it has and i buy a standard gasket, will the 0.2mm less or whatever it is make much of a difference?? Cheers oli.

im not a fan of skimming heads the previous owner of my vtr had the head skimmed when the head gasket went an replaced the gasket with the same one he should have replaced it with a multilayer gasket to make up th difference since ive had the car it doesnt feel very nippy not compared to all other saxos ive driven but i still love it..

you can just buy all the gaskets you need seperate its cheaper... depending on what condition yours are actually in the sets are quite expensive but worth it if yours are old/bad condition...
