Where To Start?

Im such a tool and a n00b when it comes to engines but now considering a few basic engine mods.

After last Monday's 'event', I thought about getting a new exhaust. Then there is also the possibility of putting in an induction kit. What else could I do that could help with fuel economy?

Bearing in mind Im a n00b, what should I be doing first, roughly how much am I looking at (so I can put £X to one side) and which one to go for?

I can see this being a long learning curve, hopefully I can take something from it!

    Cheers lads and ladettes

just a little tip, rarely will you get more power AND more fuel economy. maybe if you just fit a aftermarket ecu to a stock engine you might get anoter few bhp and an extra few bhp but thats it.

    what model saxo?vtr?vts?1.1?

best mod you can do to a vtr or 1.1 is buy a vts!

edit: just looked at your sig, you have a vts already so happy modding!

Well mate, the best breathing mods that you will get really are definatly exhaust, manifold and induction kit. If you dond mind me asking what sort of money are you looking to spend? Atleast then i will be able to suggest a few more things lol

It'll be a few hundred I suppose. Might have to be more though as Im not 100% sure on prices lol. Ill only be doing bits at a time so Ill be setting money targets and putting so much to one side each week.

Its between ICE, visual mods and this atm.

On a vts always go engine mods 1st mate lol!

Well a good manifold will cost between £150/£300.
Centre section: About £70 for a Supersprint.
Then whichever backbox you would like really.

Induction kits there are always arguments between BMC CDA/Raceland or panel filter.

So that might gove you a good start. Look at http://www.kamracing.co.uk/

Hope thats a bit of help.

Cheers, Ill have to have a word with the insurers before deciding on anything. A higher top speed is nice but I got scared at around 110-115 lol.

lol thats ok mate, its not getting there its how fast you get there and all these mods will get you to that speed alot faster plus the car will be a hell of slot more responsive. Also you could go for a complete custom system but may not be quite as good. I have a few bits of the best on mine and its really responsive.

Ill have to go to a meet at some stage so I can really see the benefits. EA seems such a quiet area, barely anybody over my way. All seem to be Norwich or Southend with the odd Ipswich member.
