I'm fitting my air filter, need help with the final bit!!

  1. #1
I need to put my air breather filter on, but i can't get this tube of the end, ive pulled it as hard as i can and used pliers but it wont budge! Is it a "hack it off with saw job? "

  2. #2
use a screwdriver, flat head and pull the yellow clip out of it, that loosens it up then u can jsut pull it off.
  3. #3
do i fit the breather filter to number 1, or number 2 on this picture?

  4. #4
you connect it to 1. I know the feeling buddy, you're on about removing the tube from the end of part 1. I can't get mine off either.....
  5. #5
What size breather do you need to go in 1?
  6. #6
does it look like ive done everything else right? The silver tube that came with the kit i fitted on to try and get a bit of cold air to the filter, is that right?
  7. #7
you'd be better off pointing the silver tube at the green bits rather than the end. Not sure if that tube will make much difference. Bet sounds better thou?
  8. #8
well thats what i was hoping for, but ive only driving it round from the back of my house to the front because i dont wanna drive it without the oil breather filter, and it didnt really sound any different, which is why im wondering if i've dont it wrong or not

yer you're prob right, will take it out for a spin in the night when the roads are clear. Do u know if the breather filter goes in SLot 1 or 2 (look at the pic)...cheers
  11. #11
as i said above, it goes onto number 1. You can run it as it is for now, wont harm it at all.

Thats how mines run for the last week whilst i find a solution that means i don;t need to use a separate filter - Tube on pipe has a hole for the breather to connect to on mine... just need to work out how to connect the two together

I've come up with a solution

  13. #13
thats the solution i was thinking of, i'll have to just plug up the hole on my inlet pipe
  14. #14
You have done it correct tommy,

Putting it on number 1 wouldof been the WRONG way to do it, as doing this would of left a hole in the TB

just out of intrest, where have you put the pipe which went into the top of the air box???

You can just see it in the picture above, at the other end of the Throttle Body witht he silver clip on it..... other end goes into the top of the airbox, where ahve you got it now???

EDIT - i can now see it, didnt realise it went back into the blue silicone hosing, just making sure
  15. #15
That seems fine mate. Is the oilbreather filter secure?
  16. #16
is it possible to put a breather on the end of the pipe that used to go into the top of the air box? instead of putting it into the back of the hosing?

yer, i just cut throw the flexible hosing pipe, i could think of no other way!
  19. #19
    looking good !
  20. #20
is it worth getting a vented bonnet? casue then more air will be sucked strait onto the filter?
  21. #21
hey, sorry to ride along the back of ure post, but i also have a filter and breather connected the same (took long pipe off and connected little breather onto top), is it normal that the breather filter is discoloured from oil? and on touch a little oil on ure finger? this was my main worry with taking that pipe off in the beginning

    Joe
  22. #22
mine did have a little oil on it yes, but then i thought to myseld that it has been on there for like 8 or 9 years so is bound to have a little oil on it. If i didn't cut the pipe and put the green filter on the end of it, then it would be open to getting bits or crap into, so i thought it was best
  23. #23
the final product, fitting the oil breather with a jubilee clip, nice and secure now

  24. #24
Nice job mate what kit is that and where you get it?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Stops crap getting inside the pipe while letting the oil "breath"

    oh lol fair enough
will that silver duct thingy be as good as a cold air intake?
spose it saves cutting away at the carr?

How the hell did you get that tube of? The one in between 1 and 2?
  33. #33
lol people and induction kits u know they offer very little real power u would have been better off with a panel filter imo than what u have now...my opinion though...

Maybe he wanted a better sound over performance. Ever think of that?

I got my open cone filter for free anyway so WiN for me
  35. #35
True i didn't think of that i dream performance lol
  36. #36
think it looks nice ....maybee get a nice long stainless steel tube and run the filter to the front of car but other than that good on ya
  37. #37
Surely that still sucking in hot air? Maybe a scoop might help? Saw a smart as f evo at USC with the a hole cut out of front lights and then filter behind it with a heat shield - looked the nuts and the filter was huuuuge!
  38. #38
Bumping an old thread but how would you go about doing this if you only have the cone part in my case a k&n filter with no hoseing etc. Thanks
  39. #39
you could go and buy the hoseing ? lol or julbaly clip the filter straight on to the tb

You have to cut the tube off. With mine, I just cut the connector thing off number 2 in the pic and stuck a breather on the end of it. Size of the breather was 18mm.

Yeah I took the saw to the tube earlier

Cut the whole tube off so going to connect the breather filter straight onto number 1 in that pic.

You're right it was 18mm, I got one that was 14mm i think lol Go back tomorrow and get it swapped
  43. #43

You`ve made a nice job there Bud,just reposition the ducting so it points directly at the paper element.
