catch can blow by

  1. #1
not sure what to call it, but lately im getting alot of oil blown out of my breather/catch can. The oil that spits out is emushlionsed (really dont know how to spell that) but what drains out of the sump aint and the coolent isnt mixed with oil either.

the car is a vtr turbo and was fine upto about a month ago

sounds like the start of a head gasket problem
  3. #3
dont think its head gaskit as there is no mix in the sump oil or the coolent
  4. #4
bump, there a fair bit of oil burning in the exhuast aswell.
Could the oil preshure be to high.
  5. #5
yes if its anything like my old 1.1 when it started to die it was because of the piston rings starting to die a death OR it could be the pipes for the catch tank aint big enough cauing pressure there to
  6. #6
still does it when i take the catch can pipe of, how could i test to see if the rings are on the way out.
  7. #7
take dipstick partially out just the top and put your hand over the rocker breather
  8. #8
will it blow out of the dipstick if the rings are goosed
  9. #9
    yes like thomas the tank
  10. #10
could valve stem oil seals also be a possabilty
  11. #11
did the dip stick test and it bubbles out oil, so does mean the rings are gone
  12. #12
    bump it like its hot
  13. #13
valve stems usually on start up only mate

how badly does it bubble out? like a squirter or slowly? sounds like they are on their way one problem with catch tanks is that if the pipes are to small in diameter then it makes the engine breathing a lot more well restricted
  14. #14
bubbles a fair bit, how big a job is changeing the rings
  15. #15
Excuse to fit forged pistons if ive ever seen one tbh!
  16. #16
wish i could afford them, out of work tho so its a no no
  17. #17
if tis standard bottom end I would just get a new bottom end in thwere mate and keep yuor dead one for forgies when you got cash
  18. #18
how much do rings cost, give me an excuse to fit a de comp plate and do away with the thick head gaskit
  19. #19
by the time you have messed about getting the rings and taking everything else apart cheaper to slap a new bottom end in. Becareful with decompression plates mine was shit hence why I went back tot he thickest HG ran alot better

The trouble with changeing the bottom end is the rents will notice im pulling the engine out and windge, were as if im doing the rings ill just say im serviceing it lol.

apart from rings, cam belt, head set and sealent from the sump what else would i need.

what problems did you have with the de com plate
