Just wonderin as when I pull away the clutch bites about half way up, is that about right?
how to tell when the clutch is on it's way out?

#2think thats ok. Does it ride at any point?
1. Park the car on a flat road
2. Put the car in 4th gear
3. Set off as you would normally
Result:
If your car stalls then the clutch is ok
If the car DOES NOT stall and rides like John Wayne then the clutch is on its way out or already knackered. -
#3thats correct! or try 5th gear.
-
#4Cheers thanks mate, I will give it a go later, when I pull away normally in first it sometimes nearly stalls and have to give it loads of revs
-
#5mines bout alf way m8 and ive only recently had a new clutch
so id say thats fine m8 -
#6remember the pedal can be adjusted could just be the way its been set up
-
#7Also when clutch is going, you put foot down and sometimes the revs go all over the place.
-
#8cruise at 30mph ish in 5th gear. then press the accellerator to the floor quickly while watching the rev counter to see if the revs fluctuate atall.
-
#9Yeah, you can normally tell when a clutch is going because it will start to slip. E.g revs increase but speed doesn't.
-
#10or like mine and all of a sudden you cant get it in gear and its too late!
-
#11so does it contribute to stiff gears then aswell? my 1st n 2nd are stiff as fuck and the release bearing is fucked i know that
-
#12the pressure plate will wear causing it hard to get into gear, or cannot get into gear at all.
the release bearing will be noisy when its on its way out and can cause getting into gear hard, or cannot get into gear at all.
the clutch plate if worn the clutch will slip.
all the above comes complete as a clutch kit. -
#13Try and pull away in 4th gear, if it just stalls then the clutch is fine. If it just revs and slowly moves off then the clutch is fubar
-
#14You can also park on a flat road, put the handbreak up, put it in 1st gear or revese and lift the clutch all the way up slowly, you can tell if its slipping by doing this. Obivously if u can get the clutch all the way up without the car stalling you know tht ur clutch is fucked.

#15ye it could just be your clutch cable adjustment if its had a new cable at any point it may stretch slighlty and its easy to adjust. and they will just set them all up the same not to your personal preference
