16s or 17s

Just brought a MK2 VTR, was talking to Tony Chesseman (had a well known VTR a few years ago) he mentioned something about 17s should go straight on on the front, but won't on the rear. Is this true?? How much do 17s shag up the handling and kill the acceleration? Plus how much can I lower it by with 17s on?
  2. #2
your going to need your arches rolled for 17s mate.think its proberly stage 2 im not sure.17s will kill your acceleration quite abit because their obviously heavier than say 16s

as i always say...15s for acceleration,17s for style,16 for compromise

Saxo's cant have the arches rolled as there plastic not metal. You can lower it as much as you like but then sufficient arch work need to be done. Arch work needs to be done no matter what drop you have on 17's.

I had my 16's with 40 profiles on and its lowered 60mm, I had no problems and no arch work.

so what's teh lowest i can go on 16's without messing up the handling? am thinking of going for springs and dampers, have heard Koni's are good, can anyone recommend anything??
  8. #8
koni are good also spax are quality.and yes if you really want to go low your going to have to get springs and shocks

if you don't want to mess up the handling then dont go lower than 35-40mm. 50mm is a good compromise between looks and handling. and if you really want good handling then get your suspension geometry set up after the car has been lowered.

What is a drop of 50mm like?? my drive is on a bit of an upwards slope, plus i live in the countryside, so sometimes there's dead phesants and other animals in the middle of road, which is a bit hard to miss when your getting past the old grannies doing 30 in a 60!! old people, caravans and horsebox's, they should be band from the road!!!

Go 17" and a -60mm drop, I did and dont regret it one little bit. The work takes 30 mins so they dont run on the back and they will go on without any work. (well if you take the arch liner out)

    my thoughts exactly!

or maybe people could start using the rest of sax-p, ie the your cars or photos/videos gallery sections to find pics of saxos, instead of being fucking lazy and asking other people to post pics for them.

Well said or use the SEARCH function

16's are a good compimise if you dont want to mess up the handling of the car too much! Anything over 16 is for looks! And the same with lowering! Anything over 35-40mm is for looks rather than performance!

You need to think what you want from your car!

Look at some Turini Speedlines! Good wheels! lightweight and good performance and handling in a 16

Those are on 205x45xr16 Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2's

As for springs and shocks! Again, its a mix between handling and looks! Consider Bilstein for handling! Expensive!
Or for rely good handling, there is always the sachs setup, but that comes in at about 1500 per corner for the damers!

    17's and down 60mm i say
