Rear brake help needed

  1. #1
As some of you may have seen last week I had a fail on MOT
Luckily (I thought) it was all rear brakes

    1. Rear discs excessively pitted

    2. Service brake below requirements **dangerous**

    3. Parking brake below requirements **dangerous**

    4. Nearside rear brake recording little or no effort

    5. Offside rear brake recording little or no effort

    6. Nearside rear parking brake recording little or no effort

So today I got to work. The brakes had previuosly felt ok on the road mind.
Firstly I puts on the handbrake and tries to drive. Nil, nada, nothing...cars going nowhere. Seems fine to me, but guess its not efficient enough. I strip down the first side, drilling out the damn rounded off things that hild the disc on and disc and pads are not bad at all, but brakes have not been right as they are glazed. Reassemble. Same on other side.
Takes the car a run...brakes feel rubbish.
Tries handbrake on..... no difference to off really.

Calipers dont appear to be seized, I can watch them move in and out with the wheel off and someone pressing the brakes.
Don't new pads need to bed in some?

    So....WHAT NEXT?

oh, the problem with the brakes was that the pads were sticking on the little wedge spacer thing which was rusty/dirty, so I cleaned it up before fitting new pads.
