how much do baffles effect performance?

  1. #1
the reason i ask is i had a super sprint cenre pipe on my car last year and it was silly loud. so i put the magnex back on. now i no that baffles effect exhaust back pressure significantly. my car seemed to pull alot better with the centre pipe baffle section in than without out.

has anyone else has experiance with this or had the same thing?

does anyone have proof like 2 dyno runs etc with/ without baffles etc?

the reason i ask is that ive destroyed my centre pipe bu scaraping it on speed bumps etc so i dont no if i should buy another centre pipe with or without the baffles?

Depends what type of baffles they are and how the gas is passed through or around them, bore of pipe, bore of silencer etc etc The combinations are endless!

yea i agree completely. this might help=

    2 inch nominal bore

with the centre box in the car has sleightly more back pressure thus pullling better further doen the rev range.

if i take the middle box out will it have any effects on performance eg lose torque or any power etc?

my baffles are going in my centre pipe im sure my vtr has lost back pressure

if your baffles have collapsed your car will definately bog down as the exhaust is restricted.

i have a magnex back box will it eventually spit the baffles out?

maybe after years possibly. ive seen many a powerflow exhaust after a couple of months "throw" up the baffles!!! but there are poor qualiity exhaust.

my centre section is starting to annoy me by scraping on everything so i want rid but i dont wabt to get rid of it if it alters back pressure that much that it alters performance

My old exhaust was good until the baffles went on it, performance dropped noticeabley. Put a powerflow on and performance was back to normal

hiya mate!!! we guna have another powerflow argument lol!!!

only messing. i might get a centre pipe made up with no baffles in and a dyno run with out and a dyno run with and see what the out come is

I think N/A need 'some' back pressure though to make good power , opposite with turbos

Be good to see the results anyway mate get it done

we agreed on sumat wey hey!!!

that is correct, on boosted cars the goal is to eliminate back pressure altogether but NA cars need a certain amount of back pressure or they bog down. hence why i dont want to risk losing performance if i take the box out. any ideas? or i am i just going to have to go for it? and see what happens

As said, N/A engines do require some amount of backpressure, turbo ones the turbo creates the back pressure, hence fecking huge pipes on boosted cars to just expel the gasses asap.

I swapped from a random pipe with no silencers apart from a backbox, to a Pugsport with a middle box and noticed a difference so chances are you noticed one too.
