Removing cambelt cover.....

  1. #1
Is is possible to remove the outside cover without removing the large pulley on the crankshaft that drives the alternator?

Also im guessing the inner cover attach to the block require the cam pulleys and cambelt to come off to get it off?

    Thanks in advance!

what car? they are all easy tbh, cos 8v jobbies are just simple as you can get and the 16vs have good cam locking pins and crank locking pin, cant go wrong.

the cambelt is about a tenner, depends if the tensioner needs doing.

Im sure you wont like the look of bent valves from a damaged/torn belt though.

Seen alot off people running no covers or no outer cover!

    Not safe?

    Not the best idea no.

Stones getting kicked up off the road and into the area where you have pulleys and belts rotating at high RPM isnt the best idea imo.

my 200 project, for the drift slag engine bay look, cut out the area of where the top pully is, so still visable when opening the hood...
but end of the day, unles you hve a spanking engine bay or a supercharger, you arent going to be showing off the engine, are you?

not worth doing tbh, like Ryan said... damage the belt you're fucked. few people on the SXOC have taken their cover off completly, something gets caught, belt slips or snaps, then end up with bent valves and cracked heads. no fun

Was only originally asking as my covers are damaged and wanted to take them off to see the full extent off the damage and see if they can be replaced easy!

Then wondered about leaving them off if replacing wasnt easy as the back one is damaged and is causing the front cover to be lose at the bottom! as its got nothing to bolt to as its snapped!
