#8i get you now, broke a smirk at a push
-
#9my car used to squeek when cold and it was the cam belt, but that might be what you mean by alternator belt???
replaced it anyways and now no more squeeking
-
#10yer it is most likely the alternator belt mate
as my car does exact same
they arent expensive either, erm when i bought mine it cost me like £2 lol as it was at cost price from where i worked, but if i remember rightly they were about 10quid at retail at the most dude, as for labour to fit it i am unsure shouldnt be a lot though, coulds always have a go your self though and save a few quid -
#11A cambelt is toothed, so shouldnt ever squeek.Quote:my car used to squeek when cold and it was the cam belt, but that might be what you mean by alternator belt???

The alternator belt is on the same side of the engine mind. -
#12agree with ryanQuote:A cambelt is toothed, so shouldnt ever squeek.
The alternator belt is on the same side of the engine mind.
i asked the good old RAC guy about this the other week when my coipack decided to break lol asked what the squeeking could be, wehter its cambelt or alternator belt and he said the cambelt should never squeek too as its toothed -
#13if the cambelt was slipping on a pulley the sqeeking would be the least of your problems lol!
-
#14Sorry to burst your bubbles boys but it could be the bearings in the water pump ?
-
#15Sorry to hijack the post here ... Chris, what happened when your coilpack broke? what sort of symptoms did u have as i think mine has gone...
-
#16ahhh well was two things really, mine actually had a hole in it just above one of the rubber cover things that go onto the plugs, so mine was on its way out for a while, but when my car decided to break down in the lanes, it turned out to be one of the wires that go into thew plug on top had decided to break so the car would run for like 10 secs then misfire badly and dieQuote:Sorry to hijack the post here ... Chris, what happened when your coilpack broke? what sort of symptoms did u have as i think mine has gone...
but when it just had a hole it would like misfire alot and you would have laps of were there would be barely any power you would plant your foot down and nothing happen, then all of a sudden it decided to work and you would pull off and power would kick in, erm thats best as i can describe it though
erm but if its gone your car just wont run it will start and then die after like 10 secs etc erm other bet is to take the pack off and have a look see if you can spot a hole, or look at the electrodes, i noticed the elctrode on the side were the hole was looked like it had been burnt or fried type of thing, or just look for like on the plastic udder type things as i like to call them hahahaha if theres any splits and like a funny brown coloured stuff as this is from where something would have seeped in split as mine had split too and had a light brown coloured stuff around the split
i think thats all i know of lol tthere may be other symptoms though, but best bet is get it off, and if you can borrow one from a freind if some one you know has a mk1 vtr and try theres and see if it solves your problem, and if it still does it you have just saved alot of money on buying a coil pack that isnt needed, they are dead easy to remove, i swapped mine in like 10 mins
sorry its a bit long winded lol but hope it helps -
#18could also be bearings in one of the alternator belt pulleys, get the belt checked first, you could try this your self when its squeaking spray a silicone spray on it if you haven't got any use wd-40 just spray a little on the inside of the belt if it stops squeaking straight away then its your belt, worth getting a new one fitted wont cost to much, if it doesn't stop squeaking then it could be your crank pulley, alternator pulley or tensioner pulley.
