HOT discs.

Not quite engine related I know, but wanted asecond opinion.

Back at FCS in May, my drivers side brake pads/discs got uber-hot on the way home, causing me to stop and let them cool down...

Before TRAX in September, I replaced the discs and pads and thought all would be well.

I was/am planning to change to 4-pots, so never thought much of it at the time.

BUT, even now, the drivers side appears to be binding. I can feel it when I come to a standstill at traffic lights.

Also, if I drive enthusiastically you can smell the brakes burning. Last weekend, when I got to Suies house, I reversed the car into the driveway and smoke was bellowing out from the rim area.

To my amazement the drivers side disc was GLOWING red!

So... still wanting to fit the 4-pots, but not yet...

Likely problem.... I'm thinking sticking caliper? Push out, grease, push back in? Will this sort it?

It should also be noted that my drivers side driveshaft is, well... shafted! But cant see that being related to the discs binding?

It's getting colder, but Im gonna have to fix these probs very soon

my money would be on sticky caliper, but as a side guess, check your caliper mounting bolts are tight incase its causing the calipers to move.

I did however find my calipers got hotter since having the turbo, probs cos you dont notice how fast your going and how much you have to stop.

    The bolts will be tight...

They were burning up before I changed the discs (managed to melt the paint onn the caliper )

And are doing the same afterwards. No doubt when it got hot the first time (disc rubbing on caliper carrier) its fooked the piston.

Just another job I cant be bothered to do

I still need to fit that alternator I bought several months ago too

    Fancy a weekend job ratty?

I suppose if all else fails, Ive got two spare complete strut legs with calipers in the shed, which are the donar struts for when the 4-pots arrive.
