crappy gear box!

   when in neutral theres a shit load of play in the gearstick and also getting 1st, 3rd + reverse is a pain sometimes.
   
   i dont knom if the clutch has to go right to the floor every time but when i remember i do make sure its right down + the problems still there.
   any one else have the same prob?

   I would try and take a look at the gear linkages behind the engine. You will need to jack the car up for this and look from underneath. Check that the move freely and nothing is hindering the ball joints.

   I fitted a B&M short shifter & Xsport gear linkages to try and remove some of the play in the stick but your fighting a losing battle mate.
   
   I think the main cause of the slackness is the big balljoint below the linkages. either the ball or the hoop it sits in wears with age & neither are an easy fix i dont think.

   Adjust your clutch cable as well, it's to slack from what you describe.

   i took mine to a garage for this problem, they checked everything they could think of and then they just said the gearbox was getting more and more worn, they said all i can do is wait for it to go lol, or replace everything beforehand which is what i intend on doing, it is a bummer like, french shite

    Mines the same.. alot of play in neutral and sounds pretty 'tinny' (if thats the word im looking for )

    Mines done 120k near enough and its tight as a drum [1.4i], still original clutch, drives like new. Must be something to do with the way its driven?
