I'm bored

    I fancy putting a 2.0 16v engine in my 106 XSi.

    Discuss...
  2. #2
    I say do it
  3. #3
being the mentalist you are i would say give it a go

will be frigging tight in a xsi though
  4. #4
    Gti180 engine on bodies fag?
  5. #5
    Which 2.0?
  6. #6
    Gti-6?
  7. #7
    GTi180?
  8. #8
There is a good amount more space in a saxo bay which is where i've seen it done, who needs a slam panel though? Could just make an aftermarket reinforced one lol

It looks like it will more or less drop straight in, just a bit of chassis leg and bulkhead chopped off here and there, and a bit of engine mount & bracing welded on...

The shifting system on my 205 looks like it could be put on a 106 with ease!

Could use the 306 shafts and go for some widetrack too?

Edit: GTi6(with 5 speed box) would be simplest due to wiring/ecu probs if using standard inlet. If using aftermarket ecu, could use the EW10 out of the GTi180...
  9. #9
fuckin do it. I'm sick of people replying to threads asking if it's possible to do it saying 'it'll mess the handling'. Most of them are slammed to shit anyway...
  10. #10
so gonna rape the 205 then fag?
  11. #11
A Xsara VTS engined saxo went past me and josh on the ring(josh driving his 170bhp tb'd saxo) like we were standing still, and it was an OE style installation using std ecu, 266mm brakes, standard track etc...
  12. #12
No Ryan, i promised the owner i'd not sell/break it. Well maybe not for a year...

the GTI 180 engines are actually only 166 bhp. you cant put wild cams in these as the pistons whack your valves. the 137 bhp GTI engine is alot easier and better to tune, as you can have wilder cam shafts to run bodies etc.... i hope this helps if you go down this route

should see matts 205 with 206 gti180 (iirc) engine and bodies
  16. #16
    Cheers.

Matt has a TBd GTi180 engine in his 205 making well over 200bhp no probs...

Fit in the bay no probs LOL

thats cool as fuck!!! does he have pocketed pistons by any chance?
  19. #19
    alex pppplease do this.

Feels like ages since a proper decent slightly mad saxo has been on saxo-p, all there is cleaning progress threads now

standard internals, bar the cams from what I last read from matt.

Its his cheap track toy. (one of them anyway lol)

Seen a GTi-6 engine in a S1 rallye iirc on rallye reg! The chap could weld so wasnt a problem! Just moved all mount to get it to fit, welded a nice cage in and widened the track while he was at it! Never saw it finished only nearly finished so dont know what happened! *Goes and looks*
  24. #24
I don't think so, from what i remember it uses standard pistons, just slightly longer duration and higher lift on the cams, it has catcams in it, with vvt adjusted to come in at lower rpm. Goes together with his cammed vts, and supercharged XSI LOL

Thinking about it in all seriousness, i was going to do it a few months back:

Engine mounts - try to retain ecu side mount although it may need to move forwards, make new mount for top of gearbox, make new lower mount, possibly add front mount too.

Manifold - Even a problem on 205s, solutions include tilting engine using longer lower mount(bad) or cutting bulkhead for clearance. 205 has no brake balance bar but has master cylinder in way, so bulkhead clearance up top should be ok! Can always modify scuttle.

    Wiring is simple.

    Cooling system is relatively simple.

Gear linkage isn't too bad, remounting 306/xsara mech into a 106 shell won't be too complicated.

Driveshafts, something can be made up either using different hubs or modified driveshafts.

    What else am i missing?
  25. #25
qrty he sold it before he finished it, it lurks with its new owner, think it's still not finished.

ad i don't own a saxo Cheers for pics, they're not great, the one or two i took with the better lens were SO much better...

Ryan Cookes. Was a xsara engine from memory. he bought it when it had been bodged badly.

really? i was reading on a 206 forum a couple of days ago that you cant do that. the gti 180s have a very very small gap between the pistons and the valves. what cams are in the car mate? out of curiosity?

aaaaahhhhhh cat cams. am i right in thinking that these are the only cams that fit in this engine? ( im asking as i want a couple of ideas for a 206 gti 137 bhp version)

wiring in neons and mounting in fluffy dice?
  31. #31
what about shafts mate you going for a cut n shut job? other than that its budget for suspension setup brakes etc you pretty much have it planned anyway
  32. #32
we know it deffo fits as its basically the same engine as Bic is now running in his car.
  33. #33
Anyone got links to pics of bics engine bay?
Different hubs seems like one of the best ways to do it! Can always use complete struts off a BE Equipped car, with coilovers and adjust position of std 106 top mounts.

matt has done this on his 106!
  34. #34
fag bic has his new progress thread on 106moaners.

Hes not got an OE cross member though, has had it all done at harry hockley etc...

As we know its not done on a budget being an ASW mobile

    Looking at that, it's fine

A small cutout for the exhaust manifold in the bulkhead and i can mount it slightly further back! As by the looks of his, inlet clearance is interesting...

Fitted fine in that saxo engine bay with the slam panel and all

As we know the gti-180 engines are also not that heavy in comparrison to other 2.0L out there.

removing literally as much of the tiny embedded stone crap as possible. Dyson'd it to high hell ready for this bad ass fuka to move in...

    I've got me a George...

so going to unleash his mothafokin pimp ass y0 on the saxo upholstery tomorrow.

    my life sucks.

Are you up north or something? Nothing better to do than get sucked off by george?
  49. #49
I was using the clichéd 'sucking off' line a lot this evening to the horror of mothersayer.

Yes I'm up north. Dead giveaway isn't it... cleaning my car. Seriously I've got fuck all else to do. I'm bored. I'm spamming the shit out of saxo-p. I've derailed your thread. I'm watching TV (News 24) for the first time in 3 months. I'm eating shit. and I'm considering actually 'trying out' George in my bedroom to alleviate my boredom...
  50. #50
    LOL sounds pretty shocking!
I fixed my computer with new memreez, have been forced to play CDs through my xbox and read books for a few days, shocking.

    Anyway bed is beckoning.

And back on topic... next year i shall 2.0 16v my 106

    on a serious note.

Massive respect to the company, that own/manufacture the 'Henry' brand of hoovers.
Lets face it, they're complete and utter fucking shit as hoovers go.

But they have a smiley face so it's a winner!

If only rep was still alive, you'd be a god of green with comments like theese!

I was thinking. If Hetty sucks harder, we could charge the polarity on the motor round and create a monster eGay supercharger! Then Henry & co vacuums really would blow!
  62. #62
This sounds interesting, deffo do it man.

Shame it wont be in a Saxo though all the people that do crazy shizzle always do it to a 106 ffs
  63. #63
I am determined to put a XU10J4RS in a saxo this year.

I have a 106 shell thats a bit rotten, im going to cut the front end off from behind the bulk head so i have a complete engine bay with mounting points to play with and use as a jig/test.

    Angles grinders at the ready

    Tom, we should join forces

It's already been done several times, it can't be that hard! could maybe even get an MA box to fit it? Who knows!

So true mate! And like you say it almost look OE!!

    I say do it Alex...

And Yes Matts 205 is very very sweet. Running 202bhp, retaining VVT, although i know he was thinking about replacing the cams getting rid of VVT and going for 250bhp - It bloody shifts either way!!

The only problem is, the shell i have is a mk2 gti.

I keep taking my dads gti6 out and everytime i go off into a little day dream about what a s/c'd xu lump would be like a in saxo. GOT TO BE DONE!

That is friking awesome. Only 250 though? Pah, Lynx engines have seen 500bhp i think now. Thats more like it

    I dream
  73. #73
Much over 200 in these cars is wasted IMO, i can say that having owned one with roughly 200, they are savage enough with that much power. Looking at a speedo vid is one thing, driving it is another!
  74. #74
To be fair, with a half decent driver and a well set-up brakes and suspension package, with 200bhp, theres not much that will touch it.

Do you know what the clearance is like with the 6 speed? Think i can remember seing a pic of the chassis being cut and re-welded from some ones 106, cant remember where i saw it though
  75. #75
The 6 speed is crap anyway, it weighs a lot and isn't that strong. I'm only leaving the 6 speed on my 205 cos it's already there and i don't have a 5 speed.

An amalgamation of Xsara vts box, 205 shafts and hubs should be doable too

There is no space for the 6 speed.
  76. #76
Hmmmmmm i know a chappy with a rear ended xsara vts. Might have to go have a word. I can see this getting expensive
  77. #77
Any idea of the weight difference between a gti180 and a gti-6 block, iirc pug1off offer gti6 conversions so it can't be a ridiculous thing to get done?
