ticking noise top end ??? followers?

hi all a little advise needed.

i have vts 16v and i have had a uprated head fitted with 285 cams etc.
yesterday i had it timed up correctly , wel thats what we think. it starts and drives (u cant leave throttle alone otherwise it will cut out) i have had the bottem end fitted with new shells and new piston rings so i am aware i need to run these in for quite a while.
what im trying to cure is my engine is making a top end ticking noise , asif there no oil up top. i had a mechanic hear the engine and he told me the cam followers where sticking but then i had another menchanic saying they are hydraulic and cant stick? help would be very usefull!
    thankyou

If it's "ticking" and it won't idle, first thing I would do is VERY carefully check your cam timing. I've not played with 285's before, so I don't know what lift at TDC they require. But I've cranked an engine by hand fine and then started it and had ticking due to hardware contact. Check your lift at TDC's.
