i've never heard of a tyre that size. your propable gonna end up with a 205/40r17 tbh mate.

mate dnt do it to much hard work
how low is ur car buddy
  4. #4
Wait, how the fuck did you calculate that.

65 is the profile, which is fucking huge.

You will need like said 205,40,17s to fit them. Read Currans thread

well in my max power haynes manuel it explains what the numbers on the tyre wall means so i wrked it out from there and the car is a vtr, drops 40mm all round

and yer that calculator says i balls up there lol

    that reply explains it all.

read the FAQs and it will explain all.

the first number, 185, 195, 205 is the width of the tyre. So that is completely dependant on what wheel you go for, most probably 205 on a 7J wheel.

The next is the side wall ratio. it is a percentage, so 65, is 65% of the wheel face, if you want to match the VTR wheels when the rim is obviously bigger this number will have to be lower, 40 at most I think, might be able to squeeze 45s but they are tight on 16s so not sure, espcially with it being lowered.

last number is obviously the rim size.

hope i havent lost you with that reply.

Have you ever seen a vtr with 17's on? It doesnt sound big but it looks crazy imo. Do you know what type of alloys you want?

    cheers jorge

no iv seen 16's and i was thinking team dynamic 1.2
  10. #10
im gona go for 17s, but jesus you dont want 65 profile tyres if the exist! you want the lowest you can afford, in my case it would be 40
  11. #11
so what ur saying is the lower the profile the more expensive the tyre?
  12. #12
yeah mate, you realy dont want to go no more that 45 profile on 17s on a saxo / 106 and the smaller the profile the more expencive the tyre on most cases
  13. #13
saxos are just not made for big wheels. will have an effect on handling with big wheels on like that, would be better off with 15s but i do understand that alot of people like the look etc. 15s still look really good on a saxo not to mention cheaper to get and the added benefit of cheaper tyres compared with 17 inch ones.

Yeh not to mention the sloppy cornering i can imagine. You wont be able to pin it into something like you would be able to on 15s.

Mine are fine, no rubbing, and hold quite well too. 17/205/40's

Ouch! How fast were you going ? (i dont drive that fast because ive usually got the kids with me) NOT SURE ABOUT THE OTHER HALF THO! He probably gives it some
  19. #19
if i went to 205 instead of the 185 do you have to mod the arches.

Do the bigger diameter have much affect on the speedo and mile counter?
  20. #20
ok i just had a play with that calculator and worked it out now

    thanks very much everyone

I think 17" are too big IMO. If i was going to upgrade i would only go to 16", but that's just my opinion.

The first time i think it was on ice because I was saving petrol so driving slow. The second I was doing about 30 going straight across a roundabout but i took the outer lane if you know what i mean. I had gone around corners faster without problems before I had my alloys.

yer after having a bit more of a look around 16's do seem a better choice for me. does the tyre being wider help with grip?
