single plug/3 plug got me confused!

  1. #1
my cars a single plug ecu.
so if i was to put a single plug vts engine in it, will i have to change the loom?

whats the difference betweenn locked/unlocked ecus?
    thanks

no you wouldnt need to change a any looms just use the single plug vts engine loom

and ecus are coded to your car
so one coded to another car (or locked) wont work
you remove the codes and unlock as such for it to run in another car

    ahhh nice one!
so i only need to change the loom if im going for a 3plug vts conversion and not a single plug vts conversion?
  4. #4
    yea but thats a ballache
if yo wanna go that way youd end up being easier to put a single plug loom on a 3 plug motor (like i just have)

but tbh your better off just buying a single plug motor

    oh right.
is there a shopping list/ guide on what bits i will need for a conversion?

nice one. how much are these engines to pick up? im already considering a 16v conversion!
  13. #13
can pick up a 16v fairly cheap tbh
ive seen em go for about 100 quid sometimes
  14. #14
not bad, mines on a v plate single plug. can i still use vtr running gear on the vts engine? read that little link you put up i'd need to look into the old fuel return?
  15. #15
you can but the gearbox is long so it would be a bit shit on it

the fuel returns not hard to do tbh
its ran along the passengers footwell by the sill and then just drop the tank to pop it up to the pump
