#3I believe you need to go to a bloke called Mankee? He is awsome for rebuilding gearboxs (heard from someone who had it done, and also seen pics of his work)
I believe he on SSC -
#4quaife, tweaqed automotive, gmc etc.... there are numberous.
If getting a quaife fitted i would go straight to quaife themselves and get them to rebuild the box at the same time. -
#5Cheers for the replies lads yates pm'd me about that mankee believe hes on rallye reg so pay a visit over there. Think quaiffe themselves would be a fair bit more expensive than anyone else.
-
#6Recommend mankee. He built my box and its perfect.

Only need to get quaife to machine the diff onto the crownwheel, there are plenty of box builders cheaper than them
RE mankee: best to contact him on rallyereg -
#8Sorry for hijack but how much and how easy would it be for a xsi or rallye box to have the 5th gear out of a vtr box fitted?
-
#95th gear is the easy gear to change on MA gearboxes
-
#10How easy lol
-
#12As I want an xsi/rallye box but dont want 80-90mph to be 5k revs as 20,000 miles a year would be a nightmare
-
#14Is the 5th gear on the VTR box not majorly longer than the rallye/xsi?
-
#16http://www.106owners.co.uk/forums/sh...ad.php?t=30004Quote:final drive is but thats not 5th gear
the clusters are the same in thbe xsi rallye vtr and vts boxes -
#17Wow to many numbersQuote:
-
#18i stand corrected
im sure i got told they all ran the same on shed
ah well i know now lol -
#19Thats why I want to use 1,2,3 + 4 for acceleration (xsi/rallye) and the 5th from the vtr for motorway cruising
-
#20problem i can see is if the 5th is 'tall' in relation to the other gears you could potentially end up with a massive rev drop when changing from 4th to 5th.
-
#21straight out of the power
would be a pain on track if you ever needed 5th -
#22if mankee cant fit you in we have built loads of MA's on ssc
-
#23It's no problem reallyQuote:problem i can see is if the 5th is 'tall' in relation to the other gears you could potentially end up with a massive rev drop when changing from 4th to 5th.
have you even needed 5th on a track before??? -
#24I've tried to tell people for ages that the VTR box has different ratios to the VTS box, but nobody would listen. Albeit, the differences are slight. Changing the 5th gear wouldn't make a huge difference, but it would be slightly better for top end.
-
#251.4xsi FD + VTR 5th is roughly equal to standard vts FD and vts 5th.
-
#26Good work Ads.

#30Lol.... Its true tho! But saying that on any UK track you would never get near 5th imo, unless its boosted!! Saying that the new long pit straight at Donnington would be interesting!
