drop links

hi all, over the past few weeks my car has been very unsteady on motorway, well anything over 60mph really. i have to be really easy when goin round bends, feels like it wants to do a 360! had a look at the drop links and one of them as nearly lost the rubber, so is this making all the differance to the handling? ta

are the balljoints worn out? is the drop link loose?

Its probably not the drop link making this much of a difference. Look for wear in other components.

dont know how to check the ball joints. drop links r not loose but they do look fucked.

What nuts did you use when you put back on?
Do you need tracking done after changing them?

Does sound like it might be a droplink issue, but I wouldn't have thought it would be undriveable. If it is bent/worn it could be preloading the ARB.

One way to check would be to take the offending droplink out. This will effectively stop the ARB from working so you may notice the arse is a bit twitchy (not noticbly) but the turn in should be sharp. If you leave the other side on it will stop the ARB flopping about and being generally dangerous! I currently have one link on my 205 and I like the handling, although I haven't driven it with two in yet! Having no ARB should be better than an ARB which is being preloaded one side.

The only thing here is you'll probably have to cut off the droplink anyway as they rust up good so may as well buy a replacement as they are cheap as chips.

How is the rear beam also? Good condition? Any camber on the rear wheels (either side) or play in the wheels?

when my beam went i thought it was the front end at first!

cheers every1 well the rear tyres do wear n the insides first, have changed the bearings, but its still doing it, so ive been told it could be bent pins. the handling is worse turning one way, turning right and the worn drop link is on the right hand side.
