    Could you afford to get a VTR or VTS engine in? Could you afford insurance on an S?

    Would rather just have a 1.4 engine in it tbh mate.

    I'd say 1-2 days depending on how confident you are.

    depends on how confident you are.

    also 200 for a 1.4 engine is quite pricey

    cost of a swap around 300 by a garage but(depending who you know possibly cheaper.
    hard, easier as its same engine conversion

    Whats wrong with the current lump exactly mate?

    It is a very simple job though. Will need a jack and axle stands etc, a wide selection of spanners and sockets from 6mm to 22mm, and also a 32mm for the driveshaft nuts. Balljoint splitter makes it a lot easier too. Take your time and youll be fine.

    Some great info here too;

    Well apprantly when it starts black smoke comes from exhuast and the temp goes skyhigh, and ive been offerd a 1.4 engine with 60k for 80£ With ECU Loom, So i thought, well might as well just chuck a complete new lump in it, unless you know what that probs is?

    Black/purple smoke means oil in the exhaust which means your piston rings are probably shagged. For that money a transplants the way forward if you do it yourself. You wont need the ECU or loom though, as long as its from the same year. If its a different plug ECU its a bit more work as youll have to get funky with the wiring

    Alot of hardwork + Money then?

    engine transplant, a garage will tell you for a saxo i would say around 12 hours, because they are shit... they told me 3 days to do my 200sx i had it out and new one in in under 3 hours.

    confident , mate you could have it complete, out and new one in and running in a day, taking into consideration tea breaks and complications... ive always found the last mount is the hardest to get in lol.

    once you done it once, you could do it again alot quicker too if you ever decide to do a 16v conversion later on...

    Westcoast engines are all single plugs so VERY easy job to do!

    The westcoast engines were all produced in the same year and 1 year only, so theyre all gonna be the same plug. A like for like engine is piss easy to do, will take a day if that tbh mate!

    Literally undo exhaust, unplug the interior to engine loom, rad hoses, earths, fuel lines, plug that goes into the ecu IF the new engine comes wiht loom attacthed. then undo the mounts, lift out, drop new engine in and plug in bolt up!

    If ya engine dont come with a loom, then just a case of undoing all the plugs n sensors
