ahhh, just got back in and had my dinner.

having problems with the car, firstly the osf (long) driveshaft wont line up, i think its something to do with that stupid bracket with the support bearing in it.

also, the starter motor locks up the engine?? i had to unbolt the starter to get the engine to turn by hand again, not sure why this is, as it was fine in my old engine, i have used the same flywheel, and the stater motor turns when its off the car, think i may need to whack some washers or something in there to give it abit of clearance. maybe this new crank has a different end float?

    any ideas would be appreciated.

Ive never had a problem with shafts fitting the bracket, does the shaft youre using have the bearing on it? If so, get it into place and use the offset head bolts to pull it fully home.

likewise, ive never had a problem with starters. The end float of the crank will be minimal. Have you actually wired it up correctly? Stupid question but ive seen people wire up earths to it and all sorts.

yeh the shaft does have the bearing on it, but the whole thing is stightly out of alignment. gonna fiddle today.

yeh i have wired it up the right way, the battery is not on yet, i havent tried the starter itself yet, its just stopping me turning the engine over by hand, so it must just be pinching the flywhell.

Have you got that stupid little dowel thing in the top hole for the starter motor?
Last time I did a gearbox i left that out accidently and then the engine had started it was still hitting the teeth in the starter.

Maybe youve left that out and its hitting the teeth and not allowing the engine to turn...?

what engine are you putting in what car?

16v mate, same as my old one, but with high comp pistons, lightened and balanced crank etc.

found the problem, on of the holes had 2 dowels in it, one on the box and one on the block. so the box wasnt sitting flush, all sorted now.
