over heating

   i have just crashed my car so i have got a the lend of a p reg 1.1 saxo till my mate passes his test
   
   it has been sat there for about a year and a half
   
   now i can only drive 2-3 miles before the overheating light comes on
   
   any advice plz

   rads more than likely blocked i'd say... have a look under the bonnet... what state is the rad water in?

   Have you checked the coolant levels?
   Checked for leaks in the hoses?
   Radiator leaks?

   i flushed the rad out the other day and the water was a little yellow
   
   and the levels are fine
   
   if the rad is blocked how can a sort this

   do you hear bubbling from the dash as you turn the engine off ?

   is the gauge actually going right up, as my missus cars fan comes on all the time, but it never actually over heats

   mines the same. temp light comes on (havent got a guage) but fan kicks in when it needs to.
   
   but mine getting an oil change in abit and the stat checked

   My fan comes on more often than used too but i thinks the weathers got a main part in it withb it being hotter and the air is not as cool as in the winter!

    i havnt got a gauge but the light is on nearly all the time
    
    tbh the oil is still like new so i dont think thats what it is

    Might be best to get someone to tow you to a garage and have a look

    yes if there was no anit-freese in it, nearly all anti-freez's im aware of have a corossion inhibitor in them to stop the rad from rusting but some people would rather buy a new rad than spend money on anti-freeze!

    not enough coolant?
    headgasket?
    dodgy thermostat?
