im looking at buying this bonnet...

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=190274160511

what should i look out for when buying a non standard bonnet?

also, should a trust the bonnet catch or get pins to be on the safe side?

Looks decent that does, and i would get bonnet pins

get pins. i've heard of storys ofthe flipping up and smashing the sreens and roof etc. better to be safe than sorry.

on the bonnet pins, i was thinking of attaching to slam panel? also, how easy is it to drill fibreglass and what type of drill bit would i use?
  5. #5
Remove the rubber bumpstop things from the slam panel and put the pins through there. Fibreglass drills no problem, use a normal (for steel) drill bit

They're "pins" that attach to the slam panel and protrude through a hole in the bonnet. A catch fitted on top of the bonnet then locks into this pin. Keeping the bonnet closed

Have a look on google and you'll get a better idea mate.

on normal bonnets they have a steel catch that fits into a lock on the slam panel

but i have to say, steel is steel and fibreglass is plastic

the bonnet does have a catch built in, and ill be using that as normal, for security and as the main catch but the "pins" are a security measure so that if the catch fails, the pins hopefully wont, bit i'll try and fit them as flush as possible so that all 3 will be evenly loaded if possible

Are bonnet pions not un sercure when it comes to stopping people getting in to the cars engine bay??? or would you leave the normal catch on there too???
  12. #12
How much would not having a grill affect engine temps?
  13. #13
Doesnt change the temp of the engine mate...

The normal catch is there too mate. The bonnet pins are just a safety catch should the standard catch fail.

I would be shitting myself trying to get the holes all lined up for the bonnet pins? drilling it to far to the left and your screwed!!! lol

they do look mint though, aswell as saving the bonnet from popping up.

ofcourse it WONT overheat, does no one know where and what a radiator does?

the grill is so small it couldnt cool the washer motor and all that is behind it is the slam panel.

and yer, has a catch to stop thieving c***s and pins to stop it flipping up

never really liked smoothed over bonnet apart from if you smooth over the fogs aswel but thats going down the euro route i would say and it wouldnt work with bonnet pins imo but i kinda like goldsax's one it pulls it off
