Indicators stuck on.. Bad earth? Help..

    1998 Saxo VTR

Went out to the car before (after it was raining quite heavily) and the Left side indicators were stuck on, as well as the indicator light on the dash.

I swaped the Relay with a new one but its stil exactly the same, checked all fuses and nothing has gone.

The right side indicator works fine and you can hear/feel the relay clicking away when you have them on, But if you press the hazard button down both side just stick on (don't flash)

A few people I spoke to said it might be a bad earth but don't know where the earthing points are on the Saxo. It also might be issues with the alarm, It has a Flashpoint alarm fitted, which is about as old as the car I think, but has worked perfectly fine.

At the moment its just in the drive with the battery disconnected.

So basically any advice on what to check, any more ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thanks Matty.

I would have thought a bad earth would either stop the indicators flashing or slow/dim them unless you refer to the earth that the relay itself uses? Maybe you could try disconnecting the indicator stalk to rule that out also. Secondly are you sure you are replacing the correct relay (not being funny here mate-done it myself)? Does the indicator and dash light go off when the relay is disconnected? It's possible your replacement is also deaded. Check inside for water/dampness and check to see if it smells of burning inside also. Can't think of anything else really. Might need to get the haynes wiring diagram out mate

I too have exactly the same problem (Left side indicators) which I can't fix

The problem lies with the central locking unit which on my 5 door 1.5D saxo is located up under the steering column. I couldn't get into the unit so I tracked down which 2 yellow wires make the indicators flash when locking/unlocking and cut them. The indicators of course don't flash when locked or unlocked but who cares! They work ok for indicating and hazards.

    Hi Thringy1,

Could you post a picture of where the wires are you cut at all.

Mine dies the same on the right side when you use the central locking

    Thanks

    Hi all,

As thringy1 said the problem is with the central locking but you do not need to take the steering column off. If you go under the passenger glove compartment you will find the immobilizer unit and the 2 mentioned yellow wires going in to it, cut these and it will stop the lights flashing when you lock and unlock the car but everything else works fine. The problem is with a relay in the box jamming on so you can replace the box if you want but you will need a key code and a new fob probably.

Hope it helps as it was driving me a bit crazy as it was an intermittent problem and you could go out and park up but when you went back to the car and unlocked it the lights would jam on leaving you a bit of a problem and the only way I could get it to unlock was to disconnected the battery and leave it for a couple of hours.
