  1. #1
Hey guys i need new brake discs, perfect time to upgrade size which ones GTi6 brakes 283mm which discs to get, i'll get mintex pads or shall i go 4pots i want to use it more on track
  2. #2
To be honest you dnt need 4 pots with the sort of power your running
    gti-6 brakes all the way

Don't forget braided lines and brake fluid.

Lot of people use the 266mm upgrade on track and say its fine.

I personally would do the 266mm upgrade with some decent fast road discs and pads such as mintex or ferodo (sp) or ebc yellowstuff

obviously the 4 pots would be better but i was speaking to a lad that said he could easily lock a wheel at 100mph

    I've got 283's.

They need everything uprating to really feel them though....such as M/C and lines.

Even so, them and the 266's are an awesome upgrade from being bolted on

4 pots are awesome, i loves mine and tbh i never want to track my car, bought them purely for safety, cant beat having good brakes

see if you can have a try or go out with someone who has the gti ones and thn someone with 4 pots

    my 266's rock.

fit them, sort the brake pedal travel... sorted.

best bit is replacing discs and pads is much cheaper compared to 283's. and they aren't so heavy either.

266's i have on mine doesn't feel out of place at all but so much better braking!

my 283s discs are massively heavy so prolly not the best idea on a normalish power car
aswell as the fact on a light car all your doing with bigger brakes is unweighting the rear wheels and then you need to look into bias valves ect to stop them locking up with no weight on

its a right arse ache lol

Can someone link to the a good disc/pad set-up with 266mm

Would the ATE discs for ecp do? Or would I have to spend a bit more and get something like these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT-306-2-...1%7C240%3A1318

depends on the pad you are running as to whether the ATE disks are up to the job.
What are you wanting to run, standard or fast road?

4pots on 266mm discs ftw, light weight and good braking.

wouldnt use mintex pads for track either, unless they m1144's..
  14. #14
i'd personally use 1155's for track work. 1144's are a fast road pad and can cook if you are harsh on the brakes.

Thinking of upgrading to 266mm, but tbh the 247mm seem fine. Fast road use, but wouldnt mind staying standard if im going to pay £100+ for discs or something.

well a set of mintex on standard size brakes will be better than standard. i like the carbone lorraine RC5 for road use too, but these squeal more when cold and lightly pressed against the disk, though the advantage of pads that do not compress under pressure is worth it.

The mintex pads seem much more within the money id want to spend, what discs would you recommend to go with them? (when are you getting the brembo's back in stock?)

I can get some 266mm callipers pretty cheap, is there a pad you can recommend for them that are similar to the Mintex pads?

Brembo disks from gsf work fine for me on 306 s16 and ive not warpd them yet and im useing the braided lines i supply and pagid rs4-2 blue pads
these are by far the best fast road and mild track use pad (lots) of money can buy.
If going for carbon lorraine hang fire a few monthes until the fast road/odd track pad comes out.

Just realised Kam racing do bits for the 206 and 306

The Mintex pads for 266mm callipers are nearly double the price! (surprising as I wouldnt have thought they use double the material!)

Seems like its better to stick with the stock callipers, unless 266mm brakes are better full stop even with OEM equipment?

Also whats the deal with braided lines, im pretty sure my standard lines arent bulging under heaving breaking! So are they just a waste of money for something shiny?

i've got gti's on my vts with mintex race discs and m1144 fast road pads, whole set up cost me around 300 for all new seals sand blasted painted fitted and parts. Four pots though would be better if your tking the car on track days as you wont get too much brake fade with all the constant breaking. Set you back a little more though
