A few questions. updated with another haha

Okay, lets get all these niggles I have with my car out the way in one thread.

    1. The car is idling not very nicely, the needle does not move much, but you can hear it stuggling, once warm sometimes it evens out, sometimes not. It chugs alot and the engine does shake quite badly.

    2. When you start that car, the revs drop and it sometimes cuts out, also there is a vacuum noise from the inlet.

    3. When I very lightly press the accelerator the revs actually drop, it never stalls, just drops, but then you press it harder and it goes up as usual.

    4. When in traffic I can see the oil temp rising, but then I start to move and it drops, what I think is significantly. Like sometimes within a matter of seconds it can rise 1/4 and within 30 seconds of travel drop back down.

I have cleaned the ICV and TB yesterday, they were literally black. Also replaced spark plugs. What is the next step to look at? The car is a Mk2 VTS, 3 plug loom with 55k on the clocks.

There was a new lambda sensor fitted around 2 months ago.

I have a feeling all are related in someway,

    5..!
Gear stick seems to vibrate a lot, if I accelerate and then lift my foot off not carefully, in say second it will jump forwards almost out of gear. I am thinking gear linkages?

check your inlet for a split or hole
  3. #3
    Wheres about am I looking?
  4. #4
well check its sat against the head properly and everything is tight then check the entire manifold for holes
  5. #5
Is it easy to remove it? I wanted to have a quick look at it yesterday when the TB was off, so undid those three long bolts on top and it didnt have any play, so I am guessing I am missing something else.

there is 2 more bolts on the back jorge.... you have to get them out from underneth

    Ooohhhhhhhh!

    Makes sense,

i wil have a listen tomorrow night and a closer lookk at it all. I was reading the FAQ about rough idle. Read the coilpack?

I cant think it will be anything else.. plugs, ICV, lambda... thats all that it mentioned and they have been done.

i have cleaned checked and changed nearly everthing n mine wont idle when warm.... im no that bothered about it now

It's all sensor / ECU related. I strongly doubt you have any physical damage such as a hole in the inlet.

IMHO, take the car to Citroed and get them to run a diagnostics on it. They can pick up on things that most typical garages can't, as they have the specific readers for your car's ECU.

When you said about the oil temp, did you not mean the coolant temp? Once your oil is up to temp, it will typicall not fall below. High speed driving will raise the oil temp very quickly though.

Haha, the gauge on the left?

I was going to come online and post I think it could be a sensor...

Wasn't so bad on the way, I just bought an ELM327 to see if I can findanything on the cheap.

The one on the left is the coolant you plonker.

When driving steadily, it should sit halfway. But sitting in traffic, it will climb up. Once you're on the move, it will shoot back to halfway, maybe lower, then it will always find its way back to the middle roughly.

Take it to Citroen, or you'll be chasing sensors for the rest of eternity.

Yeah, sounds like how mine works. But it seems to move so much I thought it was wrong.

When the lambda went, they spotting the coolant was fubar'd too, so that is a new sensor so I hope that one is correct!

    Updated with question 5

Answer to q#5 - Be smoother on the throttle! Don't hammer it, then jump off the throttle. Think about the stress you are putting on the internals.
  15. #15
#5 saggy lower engine mount. It'll go into gear easier too if you get a new one.
  16. #16
Thats the point, I am not hammering it. I just accelerate to say around 3k, in stop start traffic, then need to lift off to slow back down and it jumps...
