Cam belt snapped!

    Hello,
New member so hope this the right place to post this!
My little bro owns a Saxo VTR which he has had a couple of months. Last Monday night he rang me to say his engine had just stopped, so I towed him home had a look and found the cam belt has stripped its teeth.
My question is how much damage whould this have done, cam, valves head ect
Can they be rebuilt or is it best to fit a 2nd hand engine?

what was the miles on it when it snapped should of been changed around 60k... saxo engines are cheap just fit a new engine!

take the head off. Usually valves meet pistons and bugger both...

    I think about 106,000

As above. You can pick up VTR engine's cheap enough these days so a rebuild wouldn't really be worth it imo.

be cheaper to just hump a new engine in mate

a good vtr engine will be between £100-£150 so compare that to a £500 rebuild its an obvious choice to go for a new engine
