restoring bhp

  1. #1
ive got a 1.1i desire '51 plate with 67000k and i believe it came out the factory with 60bhp, although the way it drives it feels to be a bit down on that. how and what can i do within the engine to regain some if not all of that original bhp. i would have liked to modify the engine but the insurance company seem to be going mental at the sound of any modification i was made to take the crappy spoiler off that a previous owner had rubbishly bolted on.
ive renewed the cambelt and by the looks of things it is going to need a new exhaust soon.
    any help appreciated cheers

just a good ole fashioned service.

    sparks
    oil
    filters
coilpack (not essential but could be worthwhile)
    gearbox oil
    coolant.

Not really, just a good full service, and maybe give the throttle bodie a clean. There is something i have heard about called a decoke or something, not 100% though.

    EDIT: Engine flush aswell.

dont know were abouts you live but saxo vtr123 is right theres a place called sca rally near me which do an engine de coke cleaning all the running parts of your engine. they make high claims on it and show previous car dynos before and after and say it takes about an hour i think the machine they use replaces the fuel regualtor or something just basically cleans out all the crap. is £95 for a petrol engine si i guess that with a gold old generall service should help

    In excess of 90 BHP

Turn fog lights on, that gives you 10+ BHP

I think the 1.1's are more then nippy enough for round town.

    Indeed

But seriously, 60bhp doesn't feel like much anyway. If you'd lost a lot of power I reckon it would struggle to move

lmao good old fog lights, pisses me of when people have them on and it not foggy, police should do more about it.

you could tape over all the joints in the body panels (i saw that on top gear) wont increase you bhp but might make you go faster (just dont tape over the fogs)

hi dude, firstly service that badboy! fresh filters (oil, air, fuel), replace engine oil with a fully synthetic 5w-40 grade. replace spark plugs, check the out injectors, they may just be clogged (but could be sticky), bosh some redex or similar through it to give the fuel system a good clean.

I'm guessing your a 1st time driver but i thought my car was very nippy when i first got it, a bit too powerful at one point.

And your moaning about it being too slow.

I think your eyes are bigger then your belly.

dont hold me to this but alot of people have told me redex is ****. ive been told not to use it not that i was going to just got brought up made my friends bike run abit worse to start with think people expect to see power gains out of it. dont know why.

I think what people do is confuse what redex does with how redex package their stuff.

it's a fuel system cleaner... not a octane booster or any other thing like that

all it does is remove light deposits from the piping and most importantly around the injector nozzles.... if they're clean to start with then redex can't clean the system can it?

I think I'm going to take a set of injectors into uni one day and use the fuel lines with redex in and see if the spray pattern actually changes.

the 1.0 is single point dude, and the early 1.1's were as well but then they changed over to the multipoint <2000 if I remember correctly!

    lol good come back adsayer.

    Do a service as said.

As for the claimed 60 hp I am not sure about this but arent the ratings for blue print spec engines rather than build spec? regardless, the service will get your car running better.

Was it a 2-stroke? I wouldn't put it in a stroker. I've heard adding a little 2-stroke oil does the same thing(handy if your bike uses this and you have some about).
