SuperSprint Manifold Queries...

  1. #1
I've got a SuperSprint Race Backbox and SuperSprint Race Centre section on my Furio..

It sounds great but I would like a few more pops tbh so was thinking of saving up for the SuperSprint Manifold.. I've been told that the manifold will give alot more pops and make it more raspy etc..

    Have a few questions..

Is the 8v one a straight fit? Nothing needs moving or anything..

Also, the cat is in my manifold so the new SuperSprint manifold will decat it right?.. Come MOT time.. what do I do? Do I have to put my old original mani back on??!!

Also, are manifolds easy to fit? Or is it worth a garage doing it? Pricey??!!

Any help is appreciated, as always..

    James.

quite simple to fit, youll wanna get new manifold nuts when come to fit it.

also the supersprints sit quite low.

if you cat is in the manifold then yes the supersprint will decat and youll have to whack your old mani on

hmmm..... i had a supersprint mani on my vts. it was the mild steel one. i wasnt impressed with it all tbh. it rusted rather fast and sat very low and caught on the floor

Personally mate id go for the piper one, I contacted gmc the other day and they said they do it for £270 plus vat so will be about the same as whats on kamracing, plus its 4-1 which i prefer.

And yes as already been said just pop the old one on for MOT time also get a new mani gasket, studs and nuts

Cheers for the quick response guys..

Ah, not too keen on whacking the old mani back on tbh.. is it much of a work up?

Worrying that both of you say they sit low and that you weren't impressed etc.. I always heard they were good.. I mean, I heard Raceland ones were pretty poor so not sure what else there is to go for tbh..

    Thanks.

    Cheers mate..

difference between 4-1 and 4-2-1 etc please?!! I don't have a clue lol..

Is the piper on Kamracing too then, similar price?

I suppose it doesn't really matter if you mix supersprint with piper and other makes etc..?

    Thanks..

    Didn't think about Janspeed tbh..

Salisbury is close lol.. is that where they are based then?

Have you heard good reviews about them?

4-1 will give you more top end, a 4-2-1 will give you more mid

i now have the raceland mani and im very impressed with it for the price tbh very good quality

I have a stainless Piper 4-1 on my vtr and i cant fault it. Brilliant quality and a perfect fit.

janspeed you need to change the oil filter to the mk1 setup as i had it on my furio , was a great manifold though

not all the time, fitted one to my mates and we didnt need to move it....

The Supersprint is a poor fit on the later 8V engine - doesn't clear the revised oil filter properly unless you use extra gaskets to space it away from the head.

I fitted a Piper 4-1 to my mates car and I'm massively impressed with the quality of it - the branches are a good 1/2" wider in diameter than the Supersprint and it was a perfect fit. It will sit lower than a 4-2-1 though so take your time over bumps.

Well i had exactly the same ssetup on my furio as you have and i bought a janspeed manifold 4-2-1 and it was great the only problem is the oil filter thing even though its easy to do but just for piece of mind i took it off and sold it i just didnt like the fact it was a bolt stopping oil coming out lol. And yep the same as whats on kamracing and it will be about the same price when the VAT is all added on

hmmmm lol when i did it there was no way it was going to fit with the filter in its proper place, luck of the draw i guess lol

    Cheers guys..

Well tbh.. I don't want to have to muck around moving the oil filter and the SuperSprint doesn't sound that great from what your saying with fitting issues etc.. I want something that's a perfect fit for the Furio, yet good quality.. What are my options?? Is it worth getting one heatwrapped? What are the advantages? Also, for a Furio, does it really matter if it's 4-1 or 4-2-1?

    Thanks in advance guys

as for the CAT issues, when it comes to MOT time just go for a MK1 Cat setup, cat ataches to the manifold, than get a cat back pipe from a scrap yard off an old mk1 saxo.

    Jobs a gudun

Basically the cat under the car setup

I could ask the garage that I use to let me get away with it

I use them regularly so you never know lol...

Which one would you recommend Kam? What is going to give best results/pops etc with my current SuperSprint Race system?

    Thanks.

My money would be spent on a Piper 4-1 - awesome manifold tbh.

    Is it?

I notice on Kams site it says that they are designed for track use.. Are they not ideal for road use..

Is there any clearance issues with these on a Furio and is it worth getting any manifold heatwrapped?

    Thanks..

I always thaught if you got the phase two cat in the manifold jobby you could jsut use a phase 1 full ehxuast so you dont have to change the manifold every time jsut pop out the under car cat section for the cat much easier imo ??

Or am i wrong in thinking this ?

    Matt.
