Important! : I think my air filter is popping / backfiring??????

    I have just fitted my new green induction kit and wen i rev it up 6 or 7k revs in netural or 1st it wat sounds like to me backfires? i such a loud band sounds like a electic shock! anyone no wot this cud be? another thing i do have a small whole in my mani cud it be this banging? seems bit loud for this tho and it only started banging wen i put the air filter on?????????? help lol

    Why are you going to 7k? thats the limiter?

    And i cant see why the air fitler would make a pop

    Get a new manifold see if that helps, having a whole will mess things up a lot.

    Y not? was just reving it to see if it was alrite once i fitted it!

    And niether can i dont get it, its so loud tho sounds like the battery explodes

    very much doubt an airfilter will pop and bang
    put the standard airbox back on and see if it still happens

    dont fink its that big, im gena get it changed soon anyway! wen i rev it i cant tell wer the bangs comming from apart from its from the engine bay, gave me a headache its so loud

    Get a mate to rev it and you can listen?

    Will probably be the manifold mate.

    Just out of interest, what one are you thinking of getting?

    you have more than likley put the hole in the manifold by reving that high lol.
    no im only joking but it is really not very good for your enigne reving that high and there is no need to do it as a vtr and over 8valve engines reach their peak power about 5,000 revs and the vts is just over 6,000 as im told as i havent owned a vts YET.

    it might well be the limiter kicking in and as all the limiter does is cut out the enigne for a quick second so the revs go down slightly but if ur foot is still on the accelerator it will kick back up and as u have an induction kit u can hear it more.

    That makes sense, i never redline it wen im driving anyway just did it wen i put the filter on n scared the shit out of me lol

    yeh i done that but its so loud u cant even tell lol, not sure yet a got a mk2 so probs a piper or supersprint

    I am pretty sure the best time to change is between 6,500 and 6,750 revs just before the limiter, i am sure Adsayer mentioned it a few days ago.

    hang about doesnt a vtr have a 6.2k limiter and a vts a 7.2k??

    max torque on an s is 5.8k and power 6.8. so shifting around there will be best correct me if im wrong.

    My furio's peak power is 5.6k as shown on a RR

    Sounds to me as if your rev limiter was kicking in

    DEFINATELY your mani mate, had the same problem a while back. It's the difference in pressures and temperatures between exit gasses and engine bay air. The filter will have just made it louder

    yeh i fink ur right il get the mani sorted next month then, spose it gives me an excuse to get a racing one fitted i just cant believe how loud the bang is lol
