Brakes, Tyres & suspension report .

  1. #1
Just a little report as to how the items fitted to my car performed on its first track day of heavy usage. 270 on track miles.

The tyres are admiral 712's on the front & Some other Enduro shite on the rear.

Verdict : The admirals squeeled like mad, they got totally red hot & illegal by the end of the day. (brand new in the morning).

The tyres are total shite & provide very little grip so don't buy them at any cost. The grip in the wet is non existant as well.

The rear tyres are Enduro Road Rage or something, They hardly wore at all. The rear end grip was equally as bad as the front, but they really only started oversteering when roasting hot.

    Not recommended again.

    BRAKES BRAKES

Ok my car is fitted with some sort of 266mm setup, cheap discs & pads.

The brakes overheated immidiatley after the first 5 laps then seemed not to overheat again for the rest of the day.

They braking power was poor & inconsistant. The pedal does not have loads of travel but the brakes had no bite at all & feel wooden.

At some point the brakes felt warped & at others not ????? very strange.

Suspension Spax PSX 40 mm kit set on 20 clicks allround.

Wow this stuff was super giving the car a good nuetral handling set up, nice turn in as well. The car could be adjusted on the throttle & only understeered due to the crap tyres. This stuff was worth the money.

So now for a genral overview. Oil temperature was 3/4 up the dial so i reckon an oil cooler could sort that, water temp stayed in the middle all day.

So here is the question i need help with.

What do i need to do to sort the BRAKES OUT ?

Opinions please. My main concern is pedal feel & braking power.

I am running 14" wheels at pesent.

Good report but id have to say using cheapo discs and pads on a track is a no go realy, with the amount of use that they get over the whole day, its silly not to upgrade espically when you have the 266mm setup, also what brake fluid are you using?
Maybe get some grooved discs and mintex pads (cant remember the exact model)

And budget tyres for a track day is going to ruin the performance of the other products you are reviewing anyway?

Set of Mintex M1144's should sort things out on the brake front. Need to get some for mine eventually, I loose faith in them blasting round the back lanes.

    yeah there the puppy dogs

Well kam are doing a track day brake kit which includes Carbone Lorraine pads but they are expensive so i'd opt for the 1144's there a good bet and yeah the Maqtorq Group N's are a good bet

Braided lines (i can supply u with them) all around will help
pagid rs4 2 blue pads aint cheap but will do the job the best
    maxtorq disks from rallye design
    fresh good quality brake fluid
do all of the above and the brakes will be much better
oil temp, how old is the oil?
    What make?
    What grade?
Crap old oil can affect the temp alot.
I always change my oil before and after a track day

If your car is a track only then carbone lorraine will be the best. Yes they are expensive but they will never fade.
We supply maxtorq and have the 206 kits in stock.
Depending on your car you may be ok with the mintex m1144's, if a dedicated track car M1155's will cope with heat better though will require a little warming up.
To sort your braking distance you need as good tyres as you can afford as performance tyres are a softer compound and will have higher traction.
As you have cooked your brakes, you may have boiled your fluid. you should change this to a suitable fluid. High performance fluids have a greater boiling point so are good for cars that spend a lot of time on the track
