DeCaT on a VTR?

  1. #1
    hello,

my vtr is standard in terms of performance apart from a bmc induction kit, how will a decat pipe sound on my car?
  2. #2
i have 1 and it made mine loder i haave a bmc and piper exhaust
  3. #3
Will make the exhaust louder an will probably feel a tad more responsive. Best to get an aftermarket exhaust system too though.
  4. #4
also what vtr is it as on mine the 98bhp the cats in the manifold so had to buy a new manifold to achieve decating the car
  5. #5
did you notice any performance difference? does it drink more on the petrol?
  6. #6
    mines the mk1 90bhp
  7. #7
    havent noticed any petrol difrences

it made mine more responsive and pull better but that will be the manifold im guessing

get 1 its worth a try

yeah, thats gonna be the next step for me along with a magnex back box and hopefully a 421 mainfold, it doesnt really matter does it where i get the decat pipe from ? as long as its stainless steel? coz theres this garage near me that make custom pipes from stainless steel, no the garage is not powerflow! lol

no shouldnt matter but if your getting the rest of the exhaust you will need it the same bore all the way through
  10. #10
how much is it for a decat pipe or 4-2-1 on the 98 bhp model and where from plzz anyone
  11. #11
get a 421 manifold off ebay for around £150 for a gud one although you will pick up a second hand one for about £100.
    type in SAXO MANIFOLD

gmc motorsport i paid £300 as you also need a sleeve for 1 of the lamba sensors to trick it into thinking the cars still got a cat on

look on here for more details

sorry yeah i forgot about the sensor on the mk2's
  14. #14
but for yours it wont matta. bout the sensor as there isnt one.like on the mk2. i got a mk1 vtr with a decat and a 4-2-1 ashley comp manifold the two combined make a good power increase.
a de-cat pipe will make more of a difference on a mk1 as the construction of the cat was one of the reasons for the bhp increase on the mk 2's.
    for example:
if you had exactly the same exhaust setup on a mk 1 and mk 2 (straight thru, de-cat, 4-2-1 manifold etc. . .),it will even the bhp out a bit as you will gain more from it on the mk 1.

I was quoted this by a citoen technician over the fone as i rand the ask about y there was an increase in bhp between the two models.

the Mk2s also had the cat under the car! (98bhp suposidly) the later mk2s had it stuffed in the manifold! there are 3 main types mk1 cat under car, mk2 cat under car & mk2 cat in manifold! correct me if im wrong... there is also a difference with the ecu types...!

if you have a mark1 or mk2 the mods in discussion will improve torque, throttle responce & bhp yes. you are enableing your engine to breath more freely... the equasion is simple

    more out = more in = more in = more out!LMBO! © sax-p

the reason it changed to 98bhp was because of the emisons and got the 8bhp out of some headwork and other tweeks (correct if im wrong)

  17. #17
yes he did say there was a little bit of head work done, things were made to flow a bit easier and think the ecu was different to suit the changes made.
but he said biggest reason was the construction of the cat.
IMO this doesn't neccesarily mean weather it was under the car or in the manifold. it is the inner constructions of the cat on the mk1 being more restrictive and in-eficient.
im not saying anybody is wrong on these comments lads n lasses. i dont even no that im right! im just quoting citroens technician!
  18. #18
im not tryin to cause an argument or anything mate
i didnt think it was just down to the cat they got the etra 8bhp not that you can tell theres 8bhp diffrent
  19. #19
yeah i no what you mean about u cnt really tell. driven a mk1 and mk2 straight after one another and couldnt tell the difference! apart from the new smell you get in a new car on the mk 2 lol
